Blog Running – ‘The Morning Plum: Republicans whitewash history of filibuster’

This is the face of what is wrong with the Republican Party.

‘Mitch McConnell, speaking about the Obama administration, in an interview yesterday on CNN’:

“They’re ashamed to mention any of the things that they do with Republicans, because it steps on their storyline. Their storyline is that there must be some villain out there who’s keeping this administration from succeeding.”
@ : http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/post/mitch-mcconnells-cheerful-cynicism/2011/10/24/gIQAR45dCM_blog.html

‘Mitch McConnell’:

“The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.”
@ : http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/post/mitch-mcconnells-cheerful-cynicism/2011/10/24/gIQAR45dCM_blog.html

‘Yes, that Mitch McConnell’:

“We worked very hard to keep our fingerprints off of these proposals,” McConnell says. “Because we thought — correctly, I think — that the only way the American people would know that a great debate was going on was if the measures were not bipartisan. When you hang the ‘bipartisan’ tag on something, the perception is that differences have been worked out, and there’s a broad agreement that that’s the way forward.”

‘So it’s looking more and more likely that Harry Reid and Democrats will introduce some sort of package of filibuster reforms at the start of the next Congress’.

‘Politico reports this morning that Republicans are preparing to go to war against the reforms, and are threatening to grind the Senate to a halt in retaliation’:

“I think the backlash will be severe,” Senator Tom Coburn, the conservative firebrand, said sternly. ”If you take away minority rights, which is what you’re doing because you’re an ineffective leader, you’ll destroy the place. And if you destroy the place, we’ll do what we have to do to fight back.”

“It will shut down the Senate,” the incoming Senate GOP whip, Texas Senator John Cornyn, told Politico. “It’s such an abuse of power.”

‘Senator Cornyn claims reform will “shut down the Senate.” In reality, Republicans used the filibuster itself in an effort to effectively do just that, rendering the Upper Chamber dysfunctional to deny Obama bipartisan victories, pin the blame for ineffectual governance on him, and render him a one-term president’.

‘The package of reforms most likely to be adopted would not take away the ability of the minority to block legislation supported by a majority of the Senate’.

‘That’s right: While the reforms currently being considered would force filibustering into the open and end the ability to filibuster before proceeding to debate and in other situations, they would not — repeat, not — mean an end to the filibuster on ending debate and having a final vote on any bill’.

Fear And Loathing from the Right Wing Media

It’s self explanatory to most but this is what’s wrong with the Republican Party.

It’s not a joke to say the residents are running the aslyum.

The right wing media gets great ratings by stirring (usually) up half baked conspiracy theories from actual news.

And those that ARE stirred up are the ones that vote in the primaries.

Turn off FOX, Breitbart, NewsMax, Daliy Caller and if they want to continue to incite rather then report, then let them do so to a smaller and smaller audience.

‘Benghazi-Gate Enters New Phase: The Cover Up of the Cover Up’
“It now looks as though the White House’s excuse for the pre-election Libya cover-up is itself a cover up”.
From : http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2012/11/23/Benghazi-Gate-Now-Cover-Up-Of-Cover-Up

And that’s the most sane line from the story.

A ‘cover up’ that isn’t of a ‘cover up’ that never was.

While you were shopping – ‘Maine Anchors Resign Live On Air Citing Manipulation Of News’

‘In Bangor Maine, two television stations, WVII and WFVX are all run by one man, Mike Palmer’.

‘He has over the years been found to be pushing a lop-sided viewpoint to his staff’.

‘While he has claimed innocence, emails over the year have revealed micro-management with the intent to skew the news. The New York Times released email from 2006 has him telling his staff to not cover the issue of global warming, the single most important issue of our era’.

‘Now it appears his micro-management of his staff has forced the on-air resignation of not one, but two established and popular anchors, Cindy Michaels and Tony Consiglio’.

Tony Consiglio:

I just wanted to know that I was doing the best job I could and was being honest and ethical as a journalist, and I thought there were times when I wasn’t able to do that

Cindy Michaels:

We figured if we had tendered our resignations off the air, we would not have been allowed to say goodbye to the community on the air and that was really important for us to do that.

“There was a constant disrespecting and belittling of staff and we both felt there was a lack of knowledge from ownership and upper management in running a newsroom to the extent that I was not allowed to structure and direct them professionally. I couldn’t do everything I wanted to as a news director. There was a regular undoing of decisions.”

More at Bangor Daily News :

“Upper management is not involved in the daily production of the news. Period,” said Palmer’.

Really?

‘Michael Palmer, the general manager of television stations WVII and WFVX, ABC and Fox affiliates in Bangor, has told his joint staff of nine men and women that when “Bar Harbor is underwater, then we can do global warming stories.”

“Until then,” he added. “No more.”

Right Wing Media Entertainment – ‘Fox News Blames Obama Administration For Morsi’s ‘Power Grab’ In Egypt’

“Republicans have been fleeced and exploited and lied to by a conservative entertainment complex.”
David Frum

This is what millions of people come to believe is the ‘truth’.

‘Jon Scott was a picture yesterday of just the kind of media bias he complains about in others as host of Fox News Watch’.

‘Scott introduced his guest, Richard Grenell, as a “spokesman for the last four U.S. Ambassadors to the U.N.”

‘But somehow Scott forgot to mention that Grenell’s tenure was during the entire eight years of the Bush administration. Or more recently, he had a gig as a spokesman for the Mitt Romney campaign’.

SCOTT: “Do you think that with this backing of the Secretary of State (President Morsi) just assumed that he could now walk on water and even make this incredible power grab in Egypt”?

GRENELL: “I think there’s no question that this had something to do with it. When the greatest power in the world is gushing over your win, I think you begin to believe your press releases and think that you’re doing a great job. It’s an inexperienced move by an inexperienced leader (Morsi)… The fact that this administration, the Obama administration was way too quick and way too effusive in their praise for Morsi, I think set him up for a power grab move like this”.

‘Scott never mentioned Grenell’s Republican partisanship’.

Stories From The Fringe – ‘AZ Gun Shop Owner Unwittingly Proves Obama’s America Is Just Fine’

‘Arizona gun store owner Cope Reynolds of Pinetop ran a full-page ad in the local paper, followed by a sign in his store, saying, “If you voted for Obama, your money is no good here. You have proven beyond a doubt that you are not responsible enough to own a firearm,” it was met with a lot of eye-rolls’.

‘Business is booming so much that Reynolds attracted the attention of Arizona Republic columnist E.J. Montini. “I’ve been busier than a cat covering up poop on a marble floor,” Reynolds told the columnist’.

‘Reynolds hasn’t confined himself to this single act of political agitation. He’s also asking Arizona supporters to sign a petition to secede from the union’.

“Myself and a whole hellava lot of other Americans are of the opinion that Obama’s goal is to destroy America, not make it better.”

‘When Montini questioned him about what the President’s possible motives could be, the secessionist shop owner declared, “We could get into all kinds of conspiracy theories about him being Muslim and having orders from other places and all that. And there’s no way to prove any of that.”

‘Cope Reynolds insists he and many, many others are outraged by the “erosions of freedom” that Washington has enacted, so Montini questioned him about specifics’.

‘Has he lost any of his right to bear arms? No’.

‘Has he been prevented from stating his beliefs on signs, in the media, or on the Internet? No’.

‘Has the government tried to stop him from making more money from his store because of his statements? No’.

‘But, Reynolds insists, “They can’t destroy the entire constitution in a week.”

‘Probably not, but perhaps the shop owner is suffering from a minor oversight here: Obama has already been in office for four years’.

Cyber Monday after Sunday Picks

We both went 3-0 on T Day. Although the Houston games was too close going into OT. RG3 will be great but he needs a team. Luck down in Indy got the better team. So two great QB’s in the same year.

Kane 101 – 73

Backwoods 102 – 57
This week

Kane – 8 -8
Backwoods 11-4
…………………………..Kane……..Backwoods
34…..to….31 – Win
Houston @ Detroit……………Houston…..Houston
The expectation is that if you’re that good, you should be trouncing the other teams (see New England). Going into the playoffs this could be a problem.

38…..to….31 – Win
Washington @ Dallas………….Wash……..Wash
Either Washington needs to build a better team around RG3 or he needs to find another team.

49…..to….19 – Win
New England @ NY Jets………..NE……….NE
The Jets need to go out and get 2 running backs just like they had with Sanchez first year.

10….to….28 – Loss
Minnesota(6-4) @ Chicago(7-3)…Minni…….Minni
Turnovers killed Minni.

10….to…34 – Win
Oakland(3-7) @ Cinci(5-5)…….Cinci…….Cinci

14…..to….20 – Loss
Pitts(6-4) @ Cleveland(2-8)…..Pitts…….Cleveland
No running game and Batch as QB.

13…..to….20 – Win
Buffalo(4-6) @ Indy(6-4)……..Indy……..Indy
How far can ‘Luck’ take them?

19….to….24 – Loss
Tenn(4-6) @ Jackson(1-9)……..Tennessee…Tennessee
My bad. I thought Matt was starting. Locker is the future and your year is over anyway so might as well get his all the practivce you can. But to lose to Jacksonville?

17….to…9 – Win
Denver(7-3) @ KC(1-9)………..Denver……Denver
A little shaky at times but they were in Arrowhead.

21….to….24 – Loss
Seattle(6-4) @ Miami(4-6)…….Seattle…..Seattle
Maybe next year Seattle will get a professional football team. This may well take them out of the playoffs.

24….to….23 – Loss
Atlanta(9-1) @ Tampa(6-4)…….Tampa…….Tampa
Great game. But like Houston, you expect them to really beat the other teams.

16….to…13 – Win
Baltimore(8-2) @ SD(4-6)……..Balt……..Balt
Way too close.

31….to…17 – Loss
StLouis(3-6) @ Arizona(4-6)…..Arizona…..StL
Holy crap.

31….to…21 – Loss
San Fran(7-2) @ NO(5-5)………NO……….no pick
This does take NO out of the playoffs.

10….to….38 – Loss
GB(7-3) @ NYGiants(6-4)………GB……….NYG
How big is that GB so called loss to Seattle now? Huge. THe Giants? The good Giant team showed up. Now that it’s December, they’ll stick around and get into the playoffs.

30….to….22. Win
Carolina(2-8) @ Phily(3-7)……Car………Car
Complete toss up and again just picked Carolina because I’m tired of picking any NFC East team.

Backwoods
Sunday:

Bengals
Browns (in an upset, the STeelers can’t keep gwinning with backup players can they?

Colts
Titans (although the Jags were tough last week)
Broncos
Vikings (unless the Bear defense decides to show this week. They sucked against the 49’ers. Come on … it was the Bear defense that blew that game)
Bucs (Atlanta has had too many close games this year and Tampa should put this one out of reach in the 3rd quarter).
Seahawks (or shitbirds): They’ve got to win on the road as the road to the superbowl isn’t going through Seattle.
Ravens (although the Chargers should make a great game of this)
Rams … who cares though.
Giants …. after a by week, I think they’re going to start their season now.
Monday:
Panthers .. although it’s the Eagles so whoever I pick it’ll be wrong, but sticking with the panthers.
