WASHINGTON (AP) — ‘The Senate on Tuesday sent President Donald Trump a measure to expand the number of applicants for jobless benefits who can be drug-tested’.
‘Lawmakers in the GOP-controlled Congress have complained that under President Barack Obama, the government placed too many limits on states for deciding which unemployment applicants can be drug-tested’.
‘The Labor Department’s regulation meant that states could only test applicants for unemployment benefits who do jobs that require drug testing. The resolution passed by the House and approved by the Senate 51-48 on Tuesday would cancel those limits’.
A great, great, GREAT read over at Mock, Paper, Scissors –
I read this morning’s headlines knowing that as the day wears on, my news alerts will descend into madness, from Trump’s tweets, new discoveries about Russia, the healthcare plan, and more destructive actions against Americans and the world. Trump is the reason America is unsafe. Trump is a terrorist threat to the world. His ignorance and need for vengeance is terrifying.I don’t know where to go from here… Do you?
“But we don’t know that [carbon dioxide is a primary contributor to global warming] yet. … We need to continue the debate and continue the review and the analysis.”

Caroline Higgins is 66 years old, and at 5’2” she’s not a daunting figure. Walking on the Earlham College campus last week, she ran into one of her students, a football player who very much towers over her. She mentioned that she was about to be named to a list of the “101 most dangerous academics in America.”
Higgins said that her student just started laughing — and that for anyone who knows her, “dangerous” just isn’t the word that comes to mind. She teaches peace studies.
But today, with the release of David Horowitz’s new book, The Professors: The 101 Most Dangerous Academics in America, Caroline Higgins finds herself in elite company.

‘Des Moines Register’:
“A bill in the Iowa Senate seeks to achieve greater political diversity among professors at the state’s Board of Regents universities. Senate File 288 would institute a hiring freeze until the number of registered Republicans and Democrats on the university faculty fall within 10 percent of each other.”
WARNING – When you listen to the tape from 1993, it will make you sick to know that this bigot is the President of the United States.

“After consolidating power in Washington, D.C. and state capitals under President-elect Donald Trump, Republicans are moving to prevent large cities dominated by Democrats from enacting sweeping liberal agendas,” The Hill reports’.
“Republican state legislatures are planning so-called preemption laws, which prevent cities and counties from passing new measures governing everything from taxes to environmental regulations and social issues.”
So……..you take away poor people’s health care and then cut the federal budget that would help poor people get birth control, breast and cancer screenings and more.
But there is no Republican War On The Poor.
‘Planned Parenthood estimated that roughly 40 percent of its funding would be at risk should defunding legislation become law’.
‘The group reported receiving $553 million in government funding in 2014, about half of its total revenue’.
‘Republicans plan to strip Planned Parenthood of hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding as part of their rapid push to repeal President Obama’s health-care reforms, House Speaker Paul D. Ryan said Thursday’.
‘Ryan said a defunding measure would appear in a special fast-track bill that is expected to pass Congress as soon as next month: “Planned Parenthood legislation would be in our reconciliation bill,” he said at a news conference, in response to a question about plans to defund the organization’.
