Mitt Romney Lies #51 – ‘These Hands: Ohio’ DIDN’T build that alone

Another Romney ad taking the Presidents words out of context.

And context IS important.

Like the context of business owner Denny Sollmann from SIdney Ohio when he says “He was trying to say: ‘Hey, you didn’t build that business on your own. The government helped you build it.’ And that’s what ticked me off more than anything. Mr. President, unfortunately you have no idea how we here in Midwestern Ohio have to try to run a small business from daylight till night.”

Yeah Denny – the Government didn’t help you – did it?

‘According to notes from a Jan. 26, 2006 meeting of the Ohio School Facilities Commission, Sollmann Electrical Company was rewarded a $915,117 contract for work in the Trotwood-Madison City school district’.

‘Notes from a May 31, 2007 meeting of the same body show that Sollmann Electrical Company placed a $1,080,700 bid to do work in the Dayton County School District. This was the lowest bid offered and the commission recommended that it be finalized’.

‘According to notes from a May 25, 2010 meeting of the School Facilities Commission, meanwhile, Sollmann Electrical Company was awarded a $1,689,829 contract for work in the Miami East school district’.

‘Sollmann was also a contractor for work on the Horace Mann School in Dayton, Ohio, according to an Ohio School Facilities Commission form filled out in April 2008. Horace Mann is a public school, an official there said’.

‘In November of 2011, Sollmann made a $274,792 bid with the Ohio Department of Administrative Services to do work on a building expansion at Rhodes State College, another public school’.

‘The first project listed on Sollmann’s own website is the work it did building Memorial Middle and High School in St. Marys, Ohio. An official at the school confirmed that it is a public school that was recently completely rebuilt’.

Tell you what Denny. Why don’t you frist answer questions put to you by the press since YOU decided to go on a public ad and then give back all the money you made off those Government contrats.

Because the Government didn’t help you did it Denny?

I’m a taxpayer Denny. The Government paid you with MY tax money to help build public buildings.

And if you are smart enough to run a business, you SHOULD be smart enough to look into the trurh of what President Obama said :

“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet”.

“The point is, when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.”

Worst Day Since Yesterday – ‘Romney aide loses cool, curses at press in Poland’

Warsaw, Poland (CNN) – ‘The traveling press secretary for Mitt Romney lost his cool and cursed at reporters who attempted to ask questions of the Republican presidential candidate in a public plaza near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw Tuesday’.

‘After Romney paid his respects to Poland’s war dead and shook hands with a small gathering of the nation’s military veterans, the GOP contender walked approximately 100 yards away from the memorial as he chatted with Warsaw’s mayor’.

‘As Romney made his way to his vehicle, reporters attempted to shout questions to the candidate. The former Massachusetts governor, who has answered only three questions from his traveling press corps during a week-long overseas trip, ignored the queries’.

‘When members of the press tried to ask Romney about some of the mishaps on his trip, his traveling press secretary Rick Gorka verbally dressed down reporters’.

‘Here’s a transcript of the questions and Gorka’s response’:

CNN: “Governor Romney are you concerned about some of the mishaps of your trip?

NYT: “Governor Romney do you have a statement for the Palestinians?

Washington Post: “What about your gaffes?

NYT: “Governor Romney do you feel that your gaffes have overshadowed your foreign trip?”

CNN: “Governor Romney just a few questions sir, you haven’t taken but three questions on this trip from the press!

Gorka: “Show some respect”

NYT: “We haven’t had another chance to ask a question…”

Gorka: “Kiss my ass. This is a Holy site for the Polish people. Show some respect.”

‘Moments later, Gorka told Jonathan Martin, a reporter for Politico, to “shove it.” About a half-hour later, the aide called reporters to apologize’.

‘Romney Praises Israel’s Universal Health Care System, Which Includes Individual Mandate’

‘According to The New York Times, Romney spoke favorably about the fact that health care makes up a much smaller amount of Israel’s gross domestic product compared to the United States’:

“Do you realize what health care spending is as a percentage of the G.D.P. in Israel? Eight percent,” he said. “You spend eight percent of G.D.P. on health care. You’re a pretty healthy nation. We spend 18 percent of our G.D.P. on health care, 10 percentage points more. That gap, that 10 percent cost, compare that with the size of our military — our military which is 4 percent, 4 percent. Our gap with Israel is 10 points of G.D.P. We have to find ways — not just to provide health care to more people, but to find ways to fund and manage our health care costs.”

‘Israel spends less on health care because of a universal health system that requires everyone to have insurance. Every Israeli citizen has the obligation to purchase health care services through one of the country’s four HMOs since government officials approved the National Health Insurance Law in 1995. People pay for 40 percent of their HMO’s costs through income-related contributions collected through the tax system, and the state pays the remaining 60 percent’.

JERUSALEM (AP) — ‘Mitt Romney told Jewish donors Monday that their culture is part of what has allowed them to be more economically successful than the Palestinians, outraging Palestinian leaders who suggested his comments were racist and out of touch with the realities of the Middle East. His campaign later said his remarks were mischaracterized’.

“As you come here and you see the GDP per capita, for instance, in Israel which is about $21,000 dollars, and compare that with the GDP per capita just across the areas managed by the Palestinian Authority, which is more like $10,000 per capita, you notice such a dramatically stark difference in economic vitality,” the Republican presidential candidate told about 40 wealthy donors who ate breakfast at the luxurious King David Hotel’.

‘Romney said some economic histories have theorized that “culture makes all the difference.”

“And as I come here and I look out over this city and consider the accomplishments of the people of this nation, I recognize the power of at least culture and a few other things,” Romney said, citing an innovative business climate, the Jewish history of thriving in difficult circumstances and the “hand of providence.” He said similar disparity exists between neighboring countries, like Mexico and the United States’.

‘Palestinian reaction to Romney was swift and pointed’.

“It is a racist statement and this man doesn’t realize that the Palestinian economy cannot reach its potential because there is an Israeli occupation,” said Saeb Erekat, a senior aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’.

“It seems to me this man lacks information, knowledge, vision and understanding of this region and its people,” Erekat added. “He also lacks knowledge about the Israelis themselves. I have not heard any Israeli official speak about cultural superiority.”

We know what direction to go. We want the Ryan budget. … We just need a president to sign this stuff. We don’t need someone to think it up or design it. The leadership now for the modern conservative movement for the next 20 years will be coming out of the House and the Senate. […]’

‘Pick a Republican with enough working digits to handle a pen to become president of the United States. This is a change for Republicans: the House and Senate doing the work with the president signing bills. His job is to be captain of the team, to sign the legislation that has already been prepared.”

But before you know what’s happening, those who will then be in power WILL come and take away your guns so you can’t rise up against them’.

‘We have always been a proud nation and that pride has deepened since the end of World War II, which saw the U.S. rise to the top in everything: manufacturing, standard of living, military might. Our president is referred to as the Leader of the Free World. But look at us now. The steel for the new bridge in Oakland CA they imported from China. The new World Trade Center tower is constructed with glass from China and steel from Germany. You don’t have to shop at Wal Mart to be inundated with goods from China and Taiwan. Just check out the ‘made in’ labels in stores like Macy’s. Our standard of living has steadily decreased over the past several decades and poverty has risen sharply as a result of the Bush era policies. Our military, while helped somewhat by our exit from Iraq, is still stretched thin, demanding that our volunteer force serve repeated rotations in dangerous places. Our infrastructure is crumbling. Our public schools are under-funded and gasping for breath. And it isn’t getting better because we have a Congress that is dead set on making sure that President Obama is perceived as a failure. This is not the portrait of a nation riding the wave of success. This is the picture of a nation in decline. But there is still time to reverse the trend’.

‘There are cliffs and then there are CLIFFS. When we look at pictures of the Koch Brothers and those like them, we are staring at the bottomless pit of greed and the lust for power. They are intent on doing whatever it takes, spending however much money it costs, to buy the White House’.

‘And if they get it, they will destroy this country’.

‘They will install their puppets in Congress, in the Supreme Court and they will dismantle this Republic, leaving the rest of us to stand in the ashes of the Great American Experiment. And they will laugh in our faces when they tell us it failed because of us: because we were too stupid to be trusted with something so important. And you know what? If we let them do it, they’ll be right’.
