Stories From The Fringe – Another Hilarious Reading of The Constitution by a teabagger – ‘Idaho Lawmaker Wants States To Prevent Obama’s Re-Election’

I use to ask myself if these people were really that stupid.

I’ve stopped asking because I know they are.

Judson Phillips from teabagger Nation, The World Net Daily and an Ideeho teabagger politician do not intelligence make.

‘One Idaho state lawmaker is still in denial over election results and would like to see states challenge the legitimacy of Obama’s reelection’.

‘Last week, Idaho State Sen. Sheryl Nuxoll (R) amplified a debunked theory circulating Tea Party blogs, that claims Romney still has a chance to win if enough states refuse to participate in the Electoral College’.

‘Even though Obama won 51 percent of the popular vote, by Nuxoll’s reasoning, “states are going to have to stand up for our individual rights and for our collective rights” because he is “depriving us of our freedoms.”

‘Constitutional Accountability Center’s Emily Phelps explains why the idea that unhappy Republicans can prevent the Electoral College from reaching a “quorum” is completely wrong:

“A quick reading shows that [Tea Party Nation’s] Phillips has his voting bodies backward. There is no quorum requirement for the Electoral College. If pro-Romney electors boycotted the meeting as Phillips has urged, the others would simply meet without them and elect President Obama.”

‘The original story on World Net Daily, a conspiracy site that regularly pushes “birtherism”, now has a major caveat at the bottom’.

‘The site’s editors added the note: “Since this column was posted it has been discovered that the premise presented about the Electoral College and the Constitution is in error. According to the 12th Amendment, a two-thirds quorum is required in the House of Representatives, not the Electoral College.”

DUH.

‘Dems Defend Filibuster Reform Effort: ‘McConnell Has Broken The Social Contract’

Again, more then ANY legislative action, filibuster reform will do more to actually let Congress govern again.

Senator Mitch McConnell IS the face of Republican Obstructionism.

‘Changes to the Senate rules are rare, typically minor, and usually require 67 votes be implemented’.

‘But Democrats can avail themselves of a complicated, arcane procedure in January and amend the rules as they choose with an easier 50-plus-one majority’.

‘On the Senate floor Monday afternoon, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell railed against his counterpart, Harry Reid, and a “cohort of short-sighted Senate sophomores,” for proposing to modify the Senate’s filibuster rules on the first day of the 113th Congress to limit the extent to which the minority can gum up legislative business’.

“Does [Reid] believe that on the day he finds himself in the minority once again that he should no longer be heard?” McConnell asked’.

“The point I would make is that I’ve said from the outset is that a test of a good proposal is whether or not you could live with serving under it in the minority,” said Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR). “That’s why the talking filibuster is the right way to go. McConnell has broken the social contract. His team, under his leadership, uses it constantly and silently, out of public sight.… If we’re in the minority and we’re blocking something, we should be accountable to the public.”

‘Two ideas have wide support in the Democratic caucus’.

‘The first, more cursory change, would make what’s known as the “motion to proceed” non-debatable. That means the minority could no longer block debate on legislation, while holding out for guarantees on amendment votes or legislative changes to the underlying bill’.

‘The other would recreate a status quo ante, where filibustering senators would be required to hold the floor and draw public attention to their obstruction efforts. “If they want a filibuster, stand and talk about it,” Reid said’.

‘But under nearly all permutations of these reforms, the supermajority requirement would survive’.

‘That would still leave the GOP minority plenty of opportunities to obstruct — and Republicans are threatening to take them’.

12-21-12 – Should I buy a 2013 Calendar? – ‘Galactic Alignment 2012 – 21-12-2012 Winter Solstice Conjunction With Dark Rift’

I look at it as a Galactic Y2K.

So yes I will be buying a 2013 calendar.

‘It is true that this will be the first time in almost 26,000
years that the Sun will appear to connect with part of the Dark
Rift. It is also fair to say that this lacks the excitement of
some of the false theories regarding 2012 astronomy events’.

‘There is not an alignment of all or indeed even of several
planets on 21-12-2012. Jupiter and Saturn will however be
involved in an astrological formation known as a Yod (finger of
God)’.

‘The Solar system will not be any closer to the Galactic core in
2012 than on any other year, or in any way in a position which
might affect gravity levels between us and the Milky Way’s
central black hole’.

‘There is no evidence of us aligning with the infamous but
wholly mythical photon belt with a location said to be marked by
the star Alcyone. We are certainly not orbiting this star in the
Pleiades system as some 2012 writers have additionally claimed’.

‘The subject of 2012 galactic alignment, planetary alignment,
cosmic alignment and dark rift alignment all refer to an event
on December 21st 2012 when the Long Count Calendar used by the
ancient Meso-American peoples such as the Maya, Aztec, Toltec
and Olmec will end one great cycle of 13 Baktun (5125.26
years)’.

‘The creators of this system were able to calculate and track
interesting cycles of nature such as solar eclipse, galactic
alignment and planetary alignments going even beyond 2012’.

‘The minds behind this system gave birth to some 24 separate
calendar systems capable of tracking both astronomical and
non-astronomical cycles within nature’.

‘The winter solstice of 2012 will occur at 11:11 GMT on of
course 21-12-2012 the same day the Long Count flips over’.

‘On that morning the sun will appear to rise into the patch of
sky we refer to as the galactic centre or nuclear bulge. It is
the location of the super-massive black hole at the centre of
rotation for the Milky Way galaxy’.

‘In itself the appearance of the sun rising here is not a
particularly unique event. The phenomena can be observed for
winter solstice dates of numerous years either side of 2012’.

‘The only interesting new aspect of this year will be the sun
appearing to just touch one part of the Dark Rift (Great Rift)
that snakes its way along the Galactic Equator’.

‘This is an area of the night sky considered important to Maya
cosmology most notably with respect to spiritual rebirth
mythologies’.

‘It will however take some two decades or so to travel
completely through this dark region of the sky’.

‘Although commonly known as the ‘Galactic Alignment’ the correct
term for the event should really be the ‘Galactic Conjunction’.
Astronomical alignments refer to three celestial objects in
shared orientation. Astronomical Conjunction is an alignment of
two cosmic objects or bodies as seen from the Earths
perspective’.

Stories From The Fringe – ‘Fox Nation Misleadingly Suggests Planned Parenthood Offering ‘Black Friday’ Discounts On Abortions’

Come on Republicans! Keep getting your ‘news’ from FOX. Since you so enjoyed looking like fools on November 6th, not knowing what the rest of the Nation and World knew, keep your TV’s tuned to FOX and let the surprises keep coming.

‘Fox Nation got right in the holiday spirit mood over the weekend with a post called, “Planned Parenthood Abortion Clinic Offers Black Friday Discounts.”

‘Inside the article, Fox reported that “an abortion clinic in Southern Florida is offering a Black Friday discount — including $10 a visit to the abortion clinic today.”

‘There was a picture of a coupon above the article which gave the impression that coupons were being given out for abortions’.

‘Shockingly (not!), it turns out Fox was misleading its readers’.

‘The coupon was merely $10 off of any visit (and $5 off emergency contraception)’.

‘According to their websites, these Planned Parenthood offices, not “abortion clinics,” offer HIV testing, STD testing, emergency contraception, Men’s Health Care, Women’s Health Care (including Pap Smears, Mammograms, and Cancer Screenings), and other services’.

‘In no way does the coupon encourage abortions; in fact it doesn’t even mention them’.

‘Fox’s characterization of Planned Parenthood as a revolving door of abortions is reminiscent of Senator Jon Kyl’s famous statement that abortions are “well over 90% of what Planned Parenthood does” – which turned out to be fantastically and utterly false, and which he attempted to walk back, poorly, by saying he hadn’t meant it as a “factual statement.”

Stories From The Fringe – ‘Fox News Gags Guest After He Calls Network a ‘Wing of the Republican Party’

Ever watch Hard Ball with Chris Matthews?

There’s a show that goes out and finds people with opposing views.

FOX so called news?

The ‘we report and you decide’ people?

Well they want you to ‘decide’ just with what they are willing to tell you.

But come on Republicans. You keep using FOX as the place to get your news and the stupid that smacked you in the face on November 6th, will keep sucker punching you.

After all. To FOX, you are the sucker.

‘Fox News has been relentless in its pursuit of a cover-up narrative, and Ricks was invited to offer his thoughts on the matter’.

‘Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Thomas E. Ricks was unceremoniously kicked off Fox News after he dared to “speak truth to power” by accusing the network of “operating as a wing of Republican Party.”

‘The defense expert and author of a recently published book on American military command was invited to speak on the issue of Benghazi — namely the September 11th attack on the US consulate that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens’.

“I think that Benghazi generally was hyped, by this network especially,” Ricks told Happening Now co-host Jon Scott. “When you have four people dead…how do you call that hype?” a stunned Scott replied. “How many security contractors died in Iraq, do you know?” Ricks retorted’.

‘Scott said he did not, prompting Ricks to prove his point’:

“No. Nobody does, because nobody cared. We know that several hundred died, but there was never an official count done of security contractors dead in Iraq. So when I see this focus on what was essentially a small firefight, I think, number one, I’ve covered a lot of firefights. It’s impossible to figure out what happens in them sometimes. And second, I think that the emphasis on Benghazi has been extremely political, partly because Fox was operating as a wing of Republican Party”.

‘With that, the conversation was over’.

Blinded By Science – ‘Report: U.S. Planned On Blowing Up Moon With Nuke During Cold War In 1950s’

I grew up in the 50’s and 60’s AND I am a HUGE science and science fiction fan. HUGE!!!!

lived on Art Bell for years when I worked nights.

As scary as the World seems to some of you, imagine having ‘duck and cover’ drills in your classroom as a 4th grader. The ‘duck and cover’ was to ‘protect’ us from the nuclear blast at Fairchild Air Force base.

We would have been vaporized or died a slow painfull death form radiation burns but the teachers (and very, very well meaning) would put us through drills of going to the hallways and sitting with our backs to the walls and our heads down to protect us from the flying glass.

WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — ‘Would Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin even had a moon to walk on if the United States had its way in the 1950s’?

‘During the height of the Cold War, U.S. officials debated whether to detonate nuclear bomb on the moon in order to send a message to the Soviet Union, the Asian News International reports’.

‘The secret project dubbed, “A Study of Lunar Research Flights” and nicknamed “Project A119,” was seriously being considered until it was scrapped because military officials were worried it would hurt the people on Earth’.

‘The Daily Mail reports that astronomer Carl Sagan’s calculations were used regarding the dust and gas the blast would generate. The website also states that physicist Leonard Reiffel told the Associated Press in an interview in 2000 that a U.S. nuclear flash from Earth might have “intimidated” the Soviets’.

‘The plan consisted of carrying a nuclear device some 238,000 miles to the moon on a missile that would have detonated on impact’.

‘Fox Host: People Who Died In Walmart Factory Fire Were Thankful For Their Jobs’

Should protecting those that work for you be a part of the cost of doing business?

(Hint : trick question. Well for most of us.)

This speaks to the core of what I saw and still see in the ‘new’ Republican Party.

Placing a greater value on the rewards of business then on, in the greatest sense, the human endeavor.

By placing a greater value on money, we encourage a cheaper value on human life.

‘The 129 Bangladeshis who died in a fire caused by poor fire safety conditions in their garment factory should be thankful for their jobs, according to Fox Business host Charles Payne’.

‘Speaking with Neil Cavuto on Fox News this Monday, Payne excused this Sunday’s fire as a rare event and labelled all critics of the unsafe conditions that contributed to the tragedy as anti-Capitalist’:

PAYNE: “It is tragic. I don’t think something like this will happen again”.

“Don’t think that the people in Bangladesh who perished didn’t want or need those jobs, as well”.

“I know we like to victimize everyone in this country, particularly when it comes to for-profit motivation, which is being assaulted. But, you know, it is a tragedy but I think it is a stretch, an amazing stretch, to sort of try to pin this on Walmart but, of course, the unions in this country are desperate”.

‘The Bangladeshi factory in question, Tazreen Factories, had no functioning extinguishers, locked the exits, and employed managers who told factory workers to go back to their stations when the fire alarm went off’.

‘Since 2006, over 200 people have died in Bangladeshi garment factories as a consequence of the substandard safety precautions prevalent in their factory’.

‘Some believe companies like Walmart — whose brands were found in the burnt factory — would move if production at the faculty were more expensive; that is, if things like basic safety precautions were implemented’.

‘During his defense of the factory, Payne referred to himself as “a spokesman for capitalism and the American Dream” and said “for a lot of people, this [Walmart business practice] is a step in the right direction.”
