‘Today, Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush, who as of-late has gone relatively gaffe-free, uttered a phrase that may not go over too well with the constituency he seeks to reach’.
Jeb say’s the American worker (read middle class) is lazy. It’s the CEO’s that have been doing all the hard work to make record profits for companies. But the worker need to start working harder.
Jeb Bush :
“My aspiration for the country and I believe we can achieve it, is 4 percent growth as far as the eye can see. Which means we have to be a lot more productive, workforce participation has to rise from its all-time modern lows. It means that people need to work longer hours” and, through their productivity, gain more income for their families. That’s the only way we’re going to get out of this rut that we’re in.”
‘Wisconsin Republicans used the July 4th holiday to add items to Omnibus Budget Motion 999, also known as AB 118 that would undermine mandatory days off for workers and wipe out the living wage requirements that are enshrined in Wisconsin law’.
‘Section 56 specifically addresses the “One day of rest in seven” law that requires all factory and manufacturing employers to allow each worker at least one full day of rest every week’.
‘Well, that provision would be well on its way out if the GOP has their way’.
‘According to the bill, the language would’:
“Permit(cough) an employee to state in writing that he or she (cough) voluntarily chooses to work without one day of rest in seven. Specify the provision first apply to union contracts on the day the collective bargaining agreement expires, or is extended, modified, or renewed, whichever comes first”.
‘But that’s not all. While Republicans want everyone to work all seven days a week without a break, they also want to make sure workers don’t get paid well for doing so’.
‘In fact, Wisconsin Republicans want workers to get paid at a level that is lower than the cost of living’.
‘The new budget bill, however, would mandate that all references to a “living wage” be erased and replaced with “minimum wage,” and would also repeal the definition of “living wage.”
‘Furthermore, the bill would prohibit the Department of Workforce Development from investigating complaints from a worker that they are not being paid a living wage’.
‘This is especially bad for women since Scott Walker and his GOP buddies already repealed the state’s Equal Pay law’.
7 Fricking years of this defund, delay, repeal crap.
‘However, should the attempt to de-fund the embassy fail, both Graham and other Republicans have vowed to block the confirmation of any nominee the President taps to serve as the first ambassador to Cuba since the 1950s’.
And now war hawk Lindsey Graham :
Because 50 years of embargo was this close to working. Just another 30….40 years tops and Cuba would have given in.
‘When President Obama announced a negotiated end to the nearly six decade impasse with Cuba, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) fired off a statement saying if he is elected president in 2016, he will reverse the move and shut down the newly reopened embassy’.
‘Then, this week, Graham attempted to prevent the Havana embassy from opening at all’.
‘As the Senate debated the $49 billion dollar appropriations bill that covers the State Department and U.S. foreign aid to the entire globe, he introduced an amendment to block the modest funding needed to open a U.S. embassy in Havana, Cuba’.
‘But the measure died when all Democrats and the majority of Republicans on the Foreign Relations sub-committee refused to support it’.
‘Graham has vowed to try again when the full committee looks at the bill’.
‘A msnbc/Telemundo/Marist poll this April found that 59 percent of Americans, including 56 percent of Latinos, approved of the U.S.’ diplomatic recognition of Cuba’.
