‘Why is America so politically divided? – BBC News’

President Barack Obama poses an imminent threat to the United States greater than Russian President Vladimir Putin and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, say a third of Republicans responding to a Reuters/Ipsos poll this month’.

‘2,809 Americans were asked to rate the threat level posed to the U.S. by several countries, organizations and individuals on a scale of 1 to 5 (one being no threat and 5 being an imminent threat)’.

‘34% of Republicans ranked Obama as an imminent threat to America (equal to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un) – scoring him higher than Putin (25%), Assad (23%) and Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini (27%)’.

‘The only things Republicans found scarier than Obama were Islamic State (58%) and Al Qaeda (43%)’.

‘The findings of the poll reflect the dangers of polarization in U.S. politics identified by Pew Research in the Summer of 2014’.

‘In the largest political survey in its history – a poll of more than 10,000 adults between January and March of that year – Pew found that’:

“Republicans and Democrats are further apart ideologically than at any point in recent history”.
