There was a great artile in Crooks and Liars the other day – “Former Conservative: Liberals Need To Learn To Fight Dirty”(1)
‘Edwin Lyngar is a former conservative and a contributing editor at Salon’.
“Liberals do a lot less yelling and a whole lot more making everyone feel welcome. Yet the same strength in debating, self-awareness and the Socratic Method are the enemies of a goodstory”.
“The retired guy in a modest home on a fixed income defends the rights of billionaires to exploit him, because he’s been sold a narrative. The story matters, and Republicans spin a hell of yarn about America and “freedom,” even though most of it is bullshit or a straight-out rewriting of history”.
This is what the Republican party’s media outlet – FOX ‘news’ – does 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Tell the mostly white middle class that it’s ‘those’ people, the ones that are ‘lazy’, and that ‘don’t look like you’ that are ‘taking your money’ and perverting our family values.
And FOX repeats that over and over and over and over. They even bring in ‘experts’ to confirm that ‘fact’ that the mostly white middle class, clinging to their Bible and guns are being ‘threatened’ by ‘those people’.
Look at the last election. White middle class males voted in droves.
Blacks, Asians and Latinos stayed home.
You ‘dance with the one you came with’.
Democrats, Liberals and Progressives and Labor are the one’s who worked and got the 40 hours work week, overtime pay, weekends, paid holidays, paid sick leave, Medicare, Social Security, Medicaid, free lunch programs, Afforadable Care Act and so much more.
So why doesn’t the white middle class vote of the party that raised the middle class standard of living?
The middle class isn’t a race, it isn’t a religion, it doesn’t have a sexual orientation.
But Democrats talk about, care about and focus most of their attention on the issues for minorities.
And they should speak to the issues.
But they forgot about the mostly white middle class.
They ignore the ‘one’s that brought them to the dance’.
Said Priebus: “Bill Clinton’s activities are fair game for Hillary Clinton to answer, absolutely. And if there are things that Bill Clinton has done that we don’t know about, politically or through business enterprise, that are questionable and/or illegal, then we ought to look into it and ask Hillary about it too, because the presumption is that she’s gonna benefit from the successes of Bill Clinton, so I think it’s fair game.”
He added: “I would say that the Monica Lewinsky stuff is a little stale and old, obviously. But if it turns out that there are things that are going on, and that we didn’t know about, he’s a public figure. He’s a former president. And they want to launch Hillary into the public eye. She deserves just as much scrutiny as anybody. And if Bill Clinton was up to things we find to be unscrupulous, I think that people ought to know about it.”

‘There is still good in the world. According to The Christian Science Monitor’:
“More than 300 mayors have vowed to end veteran homelessness by the end of 2015. New Orleans celebrated the new year by becoming the first city to do so”.
“At 6 p.m. on Jan. 2, social workers in New Orleans moved the city’s last known homeless veteran into his new apartment – becoming the first US city to effectively eliminate veteran homelessness.“
‘New Orleans has become the first major city in the nation to end homelessness among Veterans’.
‘In total, 227 homeless veterans have been given housing, thanks to the efforts of UNITY of Greater New Orleans who worked with more than 60 non-profit and government organizations which includes the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System, the Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO), the State Office of Community Development, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH),and the New Orleans Interagency Council on Homelessness (NOICH)’.
‘According to UNITY’s website, these organizations recruited willing landlords to provide apartments for the veterans, with payments being made from the organizations to “ensure the initiative’s sustainability” and to give “supportive services they need to sustain their housing status and stay off the street.”
‘Mayor Mitch Landrieu, brother of former U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, said “We owe our Veterans our eternal gratitude for their service and sacrifice to this nation, and making sure they have a place to call home is a small but powerful way we can show our appreciation.”
‘According to UNITY of Greater New Orleans, it was Michelle Obama who influenced this initiative’:
“The ambitious effort began in response to First Lady Michelle Obama’s Mayors Challenge to End Veteran Homeless external linkness, which challenged communities to end Veteran homelessness by the end of 2015″.
“To date, 312 mayors, six governors, and 71 other county or city officials from across the United States have accepted the challenge.”
‘What an amazing accomplishment from The Crescent City’.
‘Because of community outreach and smart governing, Landrieu showed that ending homelessness for our veterans is something that can be accomplished, and it should not be a partisan issue’.

Here we go again……
‘Mane Gov. Paul LePage (R) got the green light on Tuesday from the state attorney general to begin drug testing some applicants to the state’s welfare program’.
‘Under the program, applicants to Temporary Assistance for needy Families (TANF) will have to disclose whether they have been convicted of a drug-related felony within the last 20 years or risk a denial of benefits’.
‘Applicants with prior convictions would likely have to take a drug test’.
‘Those who fail the tests can avoid losing benefits by enrolling in a substance abuse program’.
‘Beyond legal questions, welfare drug testing also usually comes with a big price tag’.
‘A DHHS spokesman said that the drug tests in Maine will each cost $62′.
‘Florida’s expected savings on reduced welfare spending will be dwarfed by the administrative costs and reimbursements for the tests’.
‘Just 2 percent of applicants failed tests in Florida 2011, versus an 8 percent drug use rate for residents generally’.
‘In the first month of its program, Tennessee found just one drug user out of more than 800 applicants, or less than 1 percent compared to an 8 percent drug use rate for state residents’.
‘And spending all of that money doesn’t seem to pay off’.
‘Drug testing welfare recipients relies on the stereotype that those on public assistance are more likely to use drugs, a stereotype that isn’t true’.
‘Four Republican lawmakers from the Plano area plan to introduce legislation that would bar cities and counties from adopting ordinances prohibiting discrimination against LGBT people, the Observer has learned’.
‘The proposed legislation also threatens to nullify existing LGBT-inclusive nondiscrimination ordinances in cities that are home to roughly 7.5 million Texans—or more than one-quarter of the state’s population’.
‘The bill comes in response to the Plano City Council’s passage last month of an equal rights ordinance banning discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, housing and public accommodations’.

‘Trump is suing the super posh Palm Beach County for what court records call a “malicious” attempt to disturb the peace at his Palm Beach oceanside mansion with “excessive, unreasonable, unwarranted and uninvited noise.”
‘Trump singles out Bruce Pelly, director of the county-run Palm Beach International Airport, on accusations of pressuring Federal Aviation Administration controllers to fly eastbound flights right over the Trump estate’.
“The county’s and Bruce Pelly’s efforts in this regard are both deliberate and malicious, and motivated by personal animosity towards Donald Trump,” the court record says’.
‘The lawsuit, filed Jan. 6, claims Pelly is seeking revenge because the Donald sued him in 1995 and also tried blocking plans to expand the county airport’.
‘It calls the flights a “horrible injustice” and claims the historic Mar-a-Lago mansion could get damaged by the vibrations, pollution and “corrosive bombardment” of air traffic’.
‘The records call the home “by far and away the most important historical structure in Palm Beach.”
‘This is the third time Trump has filed a suit over airport noise. Pelly was involved in the first case, which ended with the county agreeing to lease land to Trump for the Trump International Golf Club’.
