UPDATE – 2014 Mid Term Election Results

ted cruz25

Getting a lot and I mean a lot of “oh my god, we’ll never see a democratic majority again”.

Excuse me.

DEMOCRATS – 9 seats

Michael Bennet (Colorado)
Richard Blumenthal (Connecticut)
Barbara Boxer (California)
Patrick Leahy (Vermont)
Barbara Mikulski (Maryland)
Patty Murray (Washington)
Harry Reid (Nevada)
Charles Schumer (New York)
Ron Wyden (Oregon)

REPUBLICANS – 23 seats

Kelly Ayotte (New Hampshire)
Roy Blunt (Missouri)
John Boozman (Arkansas)
Richard Burr (North Carolina)
Dan Coats (Indiana)
Tom Coburn (Oklahoma) – Retiring in 2014. Seat TBD in 2014 special election.
Mike Crapo (Idaho)
Chuck Grassley (Iowa)
John Hoeven (North Dakota)
Johnny Isakson (Georgia)
Ron Johnson (Wisconsin)
Mark Kirk (Illinois)
Mike Lee (Utah)
John McCain (Arizona)
Jerry Moran (Kansas)
Lisa Murkowski (Alaska)
Rand Paul (Kentucky)
Rob Portman (Ohio)
Marco Rubio (Florida)
Richard Shelby (Alabama)
John Thune (South Dakota)
Pat Toomey (Pennsylvania)
David Vitter (Louisiana)

The Democratic seats are pretty much locks. The problem will be in finding good people to run in the 5 to 7 seats that could be picked up from vunerable Republicans.

If you want the #1 reason the Democrats lost the Senate this year –

Sen Tim Johnson SD Retired – Elected M. Rounds (R)

Sen Tom Harkin IA Retired – Elected J. Ernst (R)

Sen Jay Rockefeller WV Retired – Elected S. Capito (R)

Sen Frank Lautenberg NJ Retired – Electd C. Booker (D)

Sen Carl Levin MI Retired – Elected G. Peters (D)

You lost 3 seats to retirement and then lost Udall and Pryor who should have been ‘safe’ seats.

You had no chance.

So let’s all move forward to 2016.

Raise the Minimum Wage.

Protect a women’s choice.

Provide health care to the poor.

How can those 3 policies NOT be what America stands for?

How Republicans Will Govern – ‘Fox News Breaks Exit Poll Rules, Broadcasts Information Hours Before Polls Close’

exit polls

‘At around 6:07 p.m. EST, Fox News broadcast poll results from the
heated New Hampshire Senate race between incumbent Jeanne Shaheen (D)
and challenger Scott Brown (R), a move that has many crying foul’.

‘The information shown by Fox News revealed that Brown had a 50 to 49
percent lead over Shaheen among independents’.

‘In New Hampshire, polls do not close until 8 pm. While it is
technically legal to broadcast the results before polls close, it is
a huge breach of the rules regarding exit polling that all major
media companies have agreed upon’.

As Vox points out, the National Election Pool (the media group that
commissions exit polling), allows demographic information to be
reported, but not results’.

“The media outlets running the exit poll want to be able to describe
who’s voting, and who they’re voting for, to the public as early as
possible. But they don’t want to have any influence on who ends up
voting — they don’t want anyone deciding not to vote because they’ve
already seen what the exit polls say”…..

How Republicans Will Govern – ‘Confederate-Supporting Conservatives Want To Declare Mississippi A Christian State In 2016’

‘In what would be a totally unconstitutional measure if it were to
pass, conservatives with a fetish for the failed Confederacy are
trying to put a ballot initiative before voters in 2016 in an effort
to declare Mississippi a Christian state’.

‘If passed, the measure would declare Mississippi a Christian state’,

An English-only state’,

Designate “Dixie” as the official state song’,

‘And would require the preservation of Confederate symbols at the
University of Mississippi, which includes the former mascot Colonel

‘In addition, the state flag that includes Confederate flag elements

Remember the 2012 Republican autopsy after losing the election?
You remember the ‘we have to be nice to women’, ‘we have to be nice
to blacks’ and ‘we have to be nice to Latinos’.

Well Republicans said screw that and made the election all about fear
and Obama, Obama, Obama.

Democratic need 3 things to win.

#1 – Someone (HINT HINT BILL CLINTON) to explain policy vs politics.
President Obama has always been useless at this and that is one of a
dozen reasons that this was a ‘wave’ election. Obama can explain
things but it takes him 10 to 15 minutes.
We need short one or two lines.
American’s attention span doesn’t go beyond that.

#2 – Democrats need a 24 hour (cough) ‘news’ outlet like FOX. The
Republicans use this so well that half the time some of their
candidates wouldn’t even have to campaign. Just let FOX advertise for

chuck todd1

#3 – Pick 3 items that have drastic differences from Republicans and
can be explained in as few words as possible

  • Increase the Minimum Wage.
  • The Women’s Right To Chose.
  • Health Care.

It doesn’t make any difference if you’re a man or a woman. White or
Black or Latino. Christian or non christian. Gay or straight.

These issues affect people regardless of their sex, race or religion.
