Sunday Picks – Week 4

OK shaking off the 50% and trying to get back on track. I don’t see 5 woulda, coulda, shoulda teams losing this week so …..

Week 1
13 – 3
__________= 13 – 3 = 81%
Week 2
10 – 6
__________= 23 – 9 = 71%
Week 3
8 – 8
__________=31 – 17 = 64%

Week 4
San Francisco at St. Louis – Pick – San Fran
Yeah, yeah, yeah but ‘it can’t get worse’ can it?
Seattle exposed San Fran and KC romped all over them. So by now they should have fixed it.

Baltimore at Buffalo – Pick – Baltimore
Buff is getting better but not that much better.

Cincinnati at Cleveland – Pick – Cincinnati
Actually a hard pick but I think Cinci is building faster the the Browns.

Chicago at Detroit – Pick – Chicago
One would think anyway.

NY Giants at Kansas City – Pick – KC
Can the Giants regroup in a week after a hard thumping and against a reved up KC? I’m guessing no.

Arizona at Tampa Bay – Pick – Arizona

Indianapolis at Jacksonville – Pick – Indy
Jacksonville actually scored more points last week then in the previous 2 weeks but I think Indy, especially after giving San Fran a thumping, is ready for a great season.

Seattle at Houston – Pick – Houston
Seattle is a bad, bad, bad road team. Houston is not that good – yet – but good enough to beat a Seattle team that maybe thinks it’s unbeatable.

Pittsburgh at Minnesota – Pick – Minnesota
Both 0-3 but Minn is losing to better teams.

NY Jets at Tennessee – Pick – Tennseess
Not the greatest of teams but could be a good game.

Washington at Oakland – Pick – Oakland
Another Oak is losing to better teams then Wash is.

Philadelphia at Denver – Pick – Denver
Denver has to watch over confidence but other then that – protect Peyton and roll to the playoffs.

Dallas at San Diego – Pick – Dallas
Which means San Diego should win. I really hate the NFC East.

New England at Atlanta – Pick – Atlanta
NE has a lot of holes and has been lucky.

Miami at New Orleans – Pick – New Orleans
A team on a mission with Peyton back.

Why America Is Failing – ‘GOP House Mulling Short-Term CR’

debt ceiling4

Republicans have brought America to it’s knees.

Funding our Nation for 1 week.

1 week.

‘GOP senators tell me House Republicans may pass a short-term continuing resolution to fund the government into early October’.

“It’d be a short-term, clean CR,” says one senator. “It’d fund the government for a week or so and keep us talking,” says another senator. “I think that’s where they’re moving.”

Blog Running – Republican Extremism – ‘If Obama endorses his own impeachment, GOP will agree not to destroy the U.S. economy’

‘Well, not quite, but almost’.

‘Zach Carter and Luke Johnson of the Huffington Post report on a developing plan by House Republicans to demand an amazing array of concessions in exchange for raising the debt limit’:

“House Republicans plan to demand major perks for coal companies and Wall Street banks, alongside healthcare and social service cuts and a one-year delay in the implementation of Obamacare, in exchange for raising the debt ceiling until the end of 2014, according to a source close to the House GOP leadership. […]”

  • ‘The Republican plan, which would also constitute a significant overhaul of the environmental and financial regulatory system,
  • ‘would cut pensions for Federal employees
  • ‘and raise taxes on immigrant families with parents who do not have a Social Security number…
  • ‘The plan would increase Medicare means testing,
  • ‘and would eliminate social service block grants and a fund for preventative healthcare in the Affordable Care Act that conservatives have characterized as a “slush fund.” […]’

‘Coal and oil companies would benefit from provisions to expand offshore drilling and drilling on federal lands. The proposal blocks the federal government from regulating greenhouse gas emissions and coal ash’,

  • ‘and would give Congress the power to veto any “major” regulation issued by a federal agency (because an affirmative vote would be required, Congress could void new rules simply through inaction)’.

‘I have no idea if House Republicans will actually ask for all these things or not; one House GOP aide would only tell me that “everything is being debated.” But other reports have said they will lay down a similar list of demands’.

‘With the announcement today that the new debt limit deadline is October 17th, and with it all but certain that Republicans will drop their government shutdown push in the wake of today’s Senate vote to move forward on funding the government despite Ted Cruz’s resistance, this coming confrontation over the debt limit is the one that will really matter’.

A ‘good guy with a gun’ – ‘NRA Lobbyist Stirs Outrage After Shooting And Killing Elephant For Sport On Television’

good guy with as gun

‘NRA lobbyist Tony Makris, who is close to NRA CEO and mouthpiece Wayne LaPierre, went on a hunting trip in Botswana in Africa’.

‘He wasn’t hunting to survive or feed his family nor was he even picking on an animal that has a strong and quickly replenishing population. Makris, armed with .577 rifle, cruelly gunned down a defenseless African Elephant for sport’.

‘According to Dead Spin, Makris shot the animal twice in the face and then chased it down and shot it again, finally killing it’.

‘Makris and his fellow hunters then posed for pictures with the carcass and drank champagne in celebration of the killing. And the whole thing was recorded on camera and aired by NBC Sports on this week’s episode of Under Wild Skies’.

‘An estimated 470,000-690,000 African Elephants remain in the wild but they are still being killed in droves by ruthless poachers and by trigger-happy hunters like Makris purely for sport’.

‘All so that he can claim it as a trophy’.

‘It’s not like Makris killed a deer. He killed an elephant’.

‘Unlike deer or turkey, elephants cannot and do not reproduce nearly as fast. It takes nearly two years of gestation before a pregnant female elephant delivers a fully developed calf’.

‘In other words, elephants have a hard time replenishing their own numbers. But hunters and poachers are killing elephants faster than they can reproduce’.

‘This “hunt” is also insulting to the American people. Why’?

‘Because such a hunt costs well north of $50,000 to set up’.

‘Americans are struggling to put food on the table, the NRA’s GOP allies are slashing critical food assistance, and this lobbyist has the nerve to drop 50K just to slaughter an endangered animal for the fun of it’?

‘How does that fit the mold of a “good guy with a gun?”

GOP Blames Obamacare – ‘Life On Earth Likely to End in 2.25 Billion Years’

Yeah I’m kidding but not to some like Cruz or Palin or the other freaks out there that love themselves more then our Government.

Actually an interesting article.

‘I’ve got good news and bad news’.

‘The good news is that the Earth won’t be destroyed by the inevitable heat death of the universe’.

‘The bad news is that the planet will be wiped out long before that, between 1.5 billion and 2.25 billion years from now, according to a new study by Andrew Rushby was recently published in Astrobiology’.

‘You see, when our Sun starts running out of hydrogen fuel, it will expand until it swallows Mercury and Venus, and potentially even expands into our orbit’.

‘Obviously, this means bad things for anything left on Earth’.

‘Even if the Sun doesn’t grow large enough to reach Earth’s orbit, you don’t want to hang around waiting for the oceans to boil away and the atmosphere to burst into flame. Trust me, you’ll have a bad time’.

‘So why study an event so unimaginably far in the future’?

‘Because it can give us a better idea of where to look for intelligent life outside our solar system’.

‘We’ve detected almost a thousand planets using a variety of methods around a few hundred stars in our galactic neighborhood. That’s all well and good, but if the goal is to find life on other solar systems, finding planets is just the first step’.

‘Given what we know about life on Earth, we assume that liquid water is required’.

‘That narrows down the potential billions of planets in the galaxy to only the ones that are the right size to hold an atmosphere at the right temperature and pressure for liquid water to exist’.

‘Planets that meet these conditions are said to be in the habitable zone’.

‘At this point, it’s important to note that it took a long time for life to evolve on Earth’.

‘The planet was formed about five billion years ago, it took between one and two billion years for basic microscopic life to evolve’.

‘Add another three billion years, give or take, between the rise of single-cellular life and the evolution of man, the taming of the atom and the invention of the digital watch’.

‘For simplicity sake, lets say it took 4 billion years for complex life to evolve on Earth’.

‘So, if astrobiologists want to avoid looking for life in all the wrong places, they need to consider the time that a planet will be habitable as well’.

‘So that’s why Rushby and his cohorts are studying the Sun’s endgame’.

‘They’re adding to the model that astrobiologists use to predicts the likelihood of the evolution of life into intelligent life, based on the long-term habitability of an exoplanet’s star’.

UPDATE : Gilberton Police Chief Mark Kessler – ‘Ranting Ex-Chief Hooks Up With Vicious Radio Host for Show’

Conservative Talk Radio for ‘real’ Americans.

‘Former Police Chief Mark Kessler didn’t take long to bounce back from his firing by the borough council of Gilberton, Pa., where city fathers finally had enough of his expletive-laced and conspiracy-riddled “Patriot” rants on video’.

‘Kessler now has a radio show. And for audiences eager to lap up angry-foul-mouthed anti-liberal rants alongside a heaping helping of right-wing conspiracism, he has partnered for the enterprise with another far-right figure, radio host Pete Santilli’.

‘Santilli’s idea of civil discourse is very similar to Kessler’s. Last May, Santilli told listeners that he wanted he wanted to “shoot Hillary Clinton in the vagina” and then watch her slowly die afterward’:

“I want to shoot her right in the vagina and I don’t want her to die right away; I want her to feel the pain and I want to look her in the eyes and I want to say, on behalf of all Americans that you’ve killed, on behalf of the Navy SEALS, the families of Navy SEAL Team Six who were involved in the fake hunt down of this Obama, Obama bin Laden thing, that whole fake scenario, because these Navy SEALS know the truth, they killed them all. On behalf of all of those people, I’m supporting our troops by saying we need to try, convict, and shoot Hillary Clinton in the vagina”.

‘Kessler announced the radio show on his website, saying the show would be broadcast Mondays and Fridays for one hour. Santilli’s regular show runs daily’.
