A Conversation with a Conservative on Health care

4 things really jumped out at me in my back and forth with this person.

# 1 – They don’t read the posts they link to.

# 2 – The Conservative ‘alternative’ to Obamacare is if people don’t have insurance – too bad.

# 3 – Conservatives don’t understand the difference between insurance and health care. To them, as Mitt Romney explained, health care is a trip to the Emergency Room.

# 4 – Conservatives (i.e. teabaggers) actually believe that the Constitution limits what Government can do.

In reality the Constitution is the ‘Social Contract’ between ‘We the People’ and the Government of the United States Of America.

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America”.

The Preamble is the benefits ‘We the People’ will receive from a structured, organized and stable Government – a society.

The Constitution itself is not what the Government will do but how the Government will function.

But that’s what the teabaggers, the Republican Party wants to stop – our Government from governing.

‘I certainly wasn’t trying to link to anything that was pro-PP/ACA’.

‘The alternative is to get the Federal Government out of the health insurance business, where it never should have been to begin with’.

‘By allowing it to manipulate the tax code to “subsidize” employer-provided benefits, they have adversely affected the market’.

‘It seems very interesting that your main tone of your comment is designed to be personally insulting to me, as if to provoke a reaction. You really need to get a new playbook from Axelrod, that one is pretty stale’.

‘If people can’t afford health insurance, they don’t get it. Pretty simple – especially since nobody in this country is ever *denied healthcare*’.

‘Again you offered no alternative to those that can’t afford insurance’.

‘And your ‘solution’ that no one is *denied healthcare* means that usually those that don’t have insurance use the emergency room (the most costly form of *health care*) and the vast majority default on thier medical bills’.

‘That raises every ones cost of health care’.

‘Doing nothing – thinking that the emergency room is *health care* is not an option’.

‘Health and the lack of care cost all of us in higher medical costs and it costs business in less production’.

‘As to you thinking the comment was personal’.

‘Nobody in a universe based on sanity can come to the conclusion that you can provide more insurance to more people and have costs go down. That sort of logic only happens in some progressive liberal fantasy-land’.

‘Rates are and will skyrocket – are you buying into whatever distortions are caused to the narrative by the simple fact that they’ve been taxing us for this for years, and it still isn’t implemented? When you bake 10 years of taxation into a pie that only covers 6…5…or will it finally be 4 years – it’s nothing but a recipe for fail. These are undeniable facts’.

‘Costs were designed to soar – this legislation was designed to destroy the health insurance industry, and was from the start. Harry Reid has all but admitted it’s just a signpost no their roadmap to a single-payor apocalypse’.

‘You’re confusing or maybe you simply don’t understand the difference between health care and insurance’.

‘When you get sick….do you go to your insurance company? Or a doctor’?

‘We have 34 to 56 million people in this Country that don’t have insurance’.

‘So when they get sick…..really sick….they have to go to the emergency room’.

‘That is the most costly form of health care’.

‘Also…the care given at an emergency is only for the emergency’.

‘Any other condition(s), the hospital staff refer you to your ‘family doctor’’.

‘Emergency rooms don’t offer health care’.

‘They treat emergencies’.

‘That is the health care problem we have in America’.

‘We don’t have an insurance problem in America’.

‘They are among the most profitable companies in America’.

‘Rates will not ‘soar’’.

‘On some plans, yes the cost will go up and on others it will go down’.

‘Just as all of us pay taxes for roads, air travel, train travel, military, Veterans, etc…we will all pay taxes for what will be the beginnings of a national health care’.

‘That is the ‘social contract’ in our Constitution’.

‘Insurance companies will still be around when we eventually move to a National Single Payer Health Care Plan’.

‘So again understand the difference between health care and health insurance’.

‘A health insurance company should not set the standards of what care a patient will receive’.

‘Only a doctor should do that’.

UPDATE # 8 – ‘The Citadel: Gun-Loving Americans Signing Up to Live in Idaho Fortress Community’

I’ve written about this gun nut group a number of times…..well 8 to be exact.

T.S. Eliot’s ‘The Shadow Men’ explains their future…..”not with a bang (pun intended) but a whimper”.

After being on Glenn Beck, Drudge Report and other wing nut – gun nut sites, they have conned and make no mistake – this is a con, 26 people into paying $210.00 per day to go to their ‘mountain top’, bring their own food, water, sleeping arrangements and especially their guns for a 3 day ‘PatCon’.

Well the ‘leader’ a convicted extortionists, did get the ‘con’ right in ‘PatCon’.

Oh and just a reminder of how much of a gun nut you have to be just to live there….

‘OK – we’re having a PatCon at the Citadel Beachhead’!

‘September 6, 7 & 8th’.

‘The Beachhead is at the top of a mountain. It is steep at the top of a mountain. There are dirt roads, 4×4 is recommended, but my milk truck made it when the dirt was dry’.

‘A bulldozer leveled a pad site that is roughly 120′ wide and 220′ long. There is a simple wooden shed on-site’.

‘That’s it’.

‘There is no well. There is no septic field. There is no shelter beyond the shed. Anyone who would like to buy a well, septic field or building, let me know’.

‘This PatCon will be real camping. Holly has arranged for porta-johns on-site. That’s it. We aren’t renting a canopy tent to protect us from the weather – the local rental place wants more than $1,000 for a simple canopy tent for 3 days. That ain’t happenin’.

‘Bring food and water. Bring your trailer or tent. Bring everything you need or want to be comfy. Holly and I go to campfires and candles when the sun goes down. We won’t have a genset. Feel free to bring yours and have all the modern conveniences. Bring whatever you need to keep your food from spoiling. In other words, plan as if you intend to camp alone, and bring everything you need. Bring your dogs, but if they have an attitude problem, leash them or leave them elsewhere. My dogs will be well-removed from the camp area, because they think it is fun to chew on other dogs until they stop squeaking’.

‘Jim Miller plans to be there, so we’ll talk III Arms’.

‘Holly and I will be there and we will host a CQB weekend – “Fight to your weapon” on Saturday and “Groundfighting 101” on Sunday’.

‘Several Founders and others have already announced they will be there’.

‘As a group we will discuss all things Citadel’.

‘Those in the Congress will huddle up and discuss how best to proceed’.

‘We will talk about the III 300’.

‘We’ll talk about anything that anyone wants to bring up’.

‘Most importantly, we’ll be together, face to face, sharing space and breaking bread. Many of the people who will be there will be our Tribe’.

Leaning an AR against a tree 20 feet away is a Fail. It doesn’t have to be in a sling or in your hands 24/7, but it must remain within reach, or put it away’.

‘Security: We may get some media, even lurking in the treeline. We may get some locals – friend or foe. I plan on having some limited electronic widgets, and we will challenge anyone who happens upon the road that cuts across our property – because there is no reason for them to be there except to eyeball us’.

‘We’ll probably have a drone assigned to our little gig all weekend. ;’)

‘We will discuss the legal details with Jim and probably raffle a III Arms Minuteman AR-15 as a small fundraiser for the Citadel – all raffle money (after we pay for the rifle) will go into the site’.

‘Be prepared – my understanding is that Idaho has been very dry this summer. There may be a no-open-fire rule in effect’.

‘But we will be together. We have already taken control of our lives and our Liberty, and we are making it happen. Now we get to share some time together and grow even closer. We are making our dreams come true’.
