Meteor shower!!! What is this?

A brief period of heightened meteor activity, often occurring regularly in a particular part of the sky at a particular time of year.

Meteor showers are generally named after the constellation in which they appear to originate; thus the Perseids appear to originate in the constellation Perseus and the Leonids in the constellation Leo.

The showers occur when the Earth passes through a region having a greater than usual concentration of interplanetary debris, such as particles left by a disintegrating comet, at certain points in its orbit.

Although the meteors enter the Earth’s atmosphere on parallel trajectories, perspective makes it appear as if they originate from the same point in the sky, known as the radiant.

A meteor shower is a celestial event in which a number of meteors are observed to radiate from one point in the night sky. These meteors are caused by…

teabagger Alert!! – Gun Nuts Out Of Control – Chief Kessler and the Gilberton Borough Council – Where it started – ‘Gilberton, PA Borough Council Passes 2nd Amendment Preservation Resolution’

gilberton pa

As it turns out…..Gilberton, Pa. is experiencing Karma.

Gilberton, Pa. The home of Republican teabagger nullification.

If you willingly and eagerly go to right wing teabagger extremism – then don’t complain when it turns on you.

The Gilberton Borough Council brought this on themselves when they didn’t stand up against this ‘resolution’.

This last January, the Borough Council unanimously passed Chief Kessler’s resolution to ‘nullify’ all Federal, State and Local acts, orders and regulations they felt were un Constitutional.

They did this just after the Pledge of Allegiance to the (cough) United States of America.

Passing resolutions thinking you are Constitutional experts on which laws you will and won’t follow – is the opposite of ‘United’.

Kessler still needs to be fired.

But the citizens of Gilberton also need a new Borough Council.

They deserve (I hope) better, a Council that wants to be a part of the United States Of America – NOT some isolated armed town.

The back story.

Gilberton Borough, Pa needs a new Council.

‘On January 24th, 2013, Gilberton Borough
Council unanimously passed Gilberton Police Chief Kessler’s proposed 2nd
Amendment Preservation Resolution to nullify all unconstitutional federal,
state, and local acts, orders, and regulations involving firearms, firearms
accessories, or ammunition’.

Gun Nuts Out Of Control – Building the case to fire Chief Kessler – ‘Pa. borough asks suspended chief for gun sale info’

There is a twist that I explain in my next post that is going to make this a very, very interesting story.

Gilberton, Pa. is learning that they need to be careful what they ask for.

FRACKVILLE, Pa. (AP) — ‘A Pennsylvania police chief suspended for a month for allegedly using department weapons and ammunition without permission said Tuesday he was unsure how many guns he bought or sold for the department during 14 years on the one-man force’.

‘Gilberton Chief Mark Kessler said at a news conference at his lawyer’s office that he currently has two of the guns, both M-16s, but records of the purchases and sales are locked in borough offices’.

‘Gilberton solicitor Karen Domalakes wrote Kessler last week, asking for an inventory of the weapons currently in the department’s possession and records of guns he sold. She has not returned phone messages’.

‘Kessler said he transferred guns from the borough for sale to other police departments, and got federal approval in making the transfers’.

‘Kessler’s lawyer, Joseph P. Nahas, said they were concerned the borough council plans to fire Kessler before his suspension ends. Nahas said that if that occurs and is based on using borough property without permission, he will sue in federal court’.

‘Kessler has maintained he has done nothing wrong’.

‘Kessler said he was complying with another demand in Domalakes’ letter, that he remove any reference to his job on the videos and other online postings. The chief has posted videos online that show him shooting guns, using profanity and deriding liberals’.

‘At the news conference, Kessler and Nahas said a borough council member approached residents of the economically depressed town in the heart of coal country, trying to drum up support to discipline the chief’.

‘Nahas described the councilman’s actions as unethical, given that the council was taking up the issue of Kessler’s employment status. The borough council voted 5-1 last week to suspend him from the full-time, $20,000-a-year position’.

“We didn’t know it was going to be kangaroo court,” Nahas said’.

‘Kessler said Mayor Mary Lou Hannon told him before the meeting the town was facing a possible loss of its insurance coverage if he was not disciplined or terminated. Calls and messages left for Hannon and other elected officials have not been returned’.

But it’s NOT Republican Obstructionism – ‘GOP Expected To Thwart Obamacare Fix For Churches’

republican obstruction on obamacare

‘An effort by Democrats to fix a glitch under Obamacare that harms small churches is widely expected to be blocked by Republicans, in what would be the latest example of GOP efforts to undermine President Obama’s signature legislative achievement by refusing to fix technical problems encountered during implementation’.

‘The problem is that under the law clergy and church employees at smaller churches cannot apply their Obamacare subsidies toward the premiums for church insurance plans because those plans do not qualify’.

‘That could force clergy and staff to leave their church insurance plans and use the Obamacare exchanges instead, threatening to rob church insurance plans of the participants they need to remain viable’.

‘Legislation by Sens. Mark Pryor (D-AR) and Chris Coons (D-DE) would fix this problem by allowing Obamacare premium subsidies to be applied toward church plans that meet coverage requirements. It would also deem qualified church plans as satisfying the law’s coverage mandates’.

“We’re not expecting it to get a vote — at least not anytime soon,” said Coons spokesman Ian Koski’.

“The climate is such right now that Republicans would rather repeal the law than fix it. They’re more interested in leaving this loophole open as part of their strategy to undermine the Affordable Care Act. They can go out there now and say the Affordable Care Act is bad for churches instead of working with us to fix the problem.”

“Absent this amendment it would be difficult for some churches to function as they are now,” said Tim Jost, a professor of health law at Washington and Lee University and expert on the Affordable Care Act, which he supports’.

‘“This is one of those situations where if you had a functional Congress, they’d be able to enact a fix,” Jost said. “But we don’t have a functional Congress so that’s not likely to happen.”

“Where Obamacare Premiums Will Soar” and ‘Oh, Yeah, There’s This Other Stuff About Obamacare’

A great piece by Ed Kilgore over at Washington Monthly…..

Journalists, well most anyway, are doing a whole lot better at explaining Obamacare then the Obama Administration ever has….
‘I was reading a piece at CNNMoney about Obamacare implementation by Tami Luhby, and had to laugh bitterly at how the story was put together’.

‘The headline was “Where Obamacare Premiums Will Soar,” and it was illustrated with maps of Ohio and Florida accompanied by big scary numbers (+41% for Ohio and +35% for Florida)’.

‘The first ten graphs were about the premium increases expected (based on initial insurer bids, which are about as reliable as opening bids in home negotiations) in various states, with some contrasting information on states like California and New York where premiums look to go down’.

‘Only in the eleventh graph do we have this proviso’:

“All of these rate hikes must still be reviewed by the federal government and do not take into account the fact that Americans with incomes up to $45,960 for an individual and $94,200 for a family of four will be eligible for federal subsidies”.

‘Then you have to skip down five more graphs to find this rather important information’:

“While premiums may go up in these states, Obamacare advocates say people will receive more comprehensive coverage. Also, the law limits the amount people have to pay out-of-pocket for deductibles and co-pays to $6,350 in 2014”.

“A lot of people will get more for their money,” said Sarah Lueck, senior policy analyst for the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. “Even people paying a higher rate will benefit. It will be a big change in most states.”

Stories From The Religious Fringe – ‘Creationist radio ad says dinosaurs were on Noah’s Ark’

kentucky creation

‘Why did the dinosaurs go extinct? Answers in Genesis doesn’t say, but the Creationist group is sure of one thing: the giant reptiles were on Noah’s Ark’.
‘In a 60-second radio ad released Monday, Answers in Genesis President Ken Ham lamented that dinosaurs had been used to “indoctrinate children” to believe in the theory of evolution’.
‘He said dinosaurs could not have existed before humans because the Bible clear stated all land animals and humans were created on the same day “about 6,000 years ago.”From :
