Why it’s called the ‘Stupid Party’ – ‘Kansas GOP to legalize quarantine of HIV patients’

kansas aids

This might actually have been a funny story….except that’s it’s in Kansas and it’s the GOP.

so not from the Onion, not a planted story. A very real possibility.

The good old Kansas Republicans.

The above is ‘the part of the proposed legislation where they repeal a ban on quarantining people with HIV/AIDS that went into place in 1988’.

‘The Kansas legislature is about to empower the state to quarantine people with HIV and AIDS’.

‘The local Fox affiliate says the legislation is expected to become law in the next few weeks’.

‘Republicans in the Kansas state legislature promise that the quarantine power will never be exercised against people with AIDS, but they then shot down a Democratic-led effort, by Senator Marci Francisco, to exempt people with HIV and AIDS from the quarantine provision’.

‘Koch-Funded ALEC Wants To Make It Harder To Document Animal Abuse’

animal cruelity

‘Tennessee State Representative Andy Holt (R) has introduced an amendment to HB 1191 that would make it a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a $10,000 fine to videotape animal cruelty and not hand it over to the authorities within 48 hours’.

‘This legislation sounds as if it’s designed to prevent profiting from or celebrating cruel dog- or cock-fighting’.

“I think this is something that we need to be doing, not only to protect our animal industries here in the state against these animal activists that have caused great economic harm to some, but also to protect the animals themselves. That is the ultimate intention of this bill,” Holt said’.

‘So he wants to protect animals’?

“Baloney,” writes the editorial board of the Chattanooga Times Free Press. “Its transparent purpose is to prevent animal-rights advocates from quietly accumulating sufficient documentation to show a court that animal cruelty is wrongly and deliberately used in some slaughterhouses and animal training facilities.”

‘So where did Holt get the idea — nay! — the exact language for his bill’?

The Times Free Press blames the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) the Koch brothers-supported group’.

“Of all the Kochs’ investments in right-wing organizations, ALEC provides some of the best returns: It gives the Kochs a way to make their brand of free-market fundamentalism legally binding,” The Nation‘s Lisa Graves reported in 2011′.

‘If you paste a sentence from Holt’s bill into a search engine, you’ll find identical wording was submitted in a bill before New Hampshire’s state legislature earlier this year’.

‘ So called “Ag-Gag” bills have also been considered in Arkansas, Nebraska and Wyoming’.

Why it’s called the ‘Stupid Party’ – ‘Obama Now Global Head of Al-Qaeda’

alex jones1

The Republican Party keeps inviting people like this into the ‘party’ and never openly condemns them.

And Info Wars, Newsmax and Daily Caller along with FOX pass for ‘news’ to the Republican Party.

This is the Republican Party’s real problem.

Fear of offending right wing nut cases spurring on the ‘base’ .

From Alex Jone ‘Info Wars :

‘President Barack Obama is now the global head of Al-Qaeda – bankrolling, arming and equipping terrorists around the world in order to achieve his administration’s geopolitical objectives – while simultaneously invoking the threat of terrorists domestically to destroy the bill of rights’.

One Man’s Trash – ‘Idaho teacher investigated for saying ‘vagina’ during biology lesson’

one man's trash1

How dare they use medical terms in a biology class!!!

Welcome to Ideehoe!

‘A high school science teacher in Idaho is under investigation by the state’s professional standards commission because he reportedly used the word “vagina” during a biology lesson’.

‘Tim McDaniel, who teaches 10th grade science at Dietrich School, told the Twin Falls Times-News that four parents were upset when they learned that his lesson included the word “vagina” and information about the biology behind female orgasm’.

“I teach straight out of the textbook, I don’t include anything that the textbook doesn’t mention,” McDaniel remarked. “But I give every student the option not attend this class when I teach on the reproductive system if they don’t feel comfortable with the material.”

‘McDaniel said that he had never before received a complaint in the 18 years that he had taught science class at Dietrich School’.

‘According to students who have set up a Facebook page to “SAVE THE SCIENCE TEACHER!!” certain parents may have had a political agenda in going after McDaniel. Sixty-six percent of church goers in Lincoln County, where Dietrich is located, are affiliated with the Mormon LDS Church, according to 2002 Glenmary Research Center data’.

“[T]here are a couple people in the community that are trying to get Mr. McDaniel fired for teaching the reproductive system, climate change, and several other science subjects,” students wrote. “All these subjects were taught from the book and in good taste. He cares for each of his students and goes the extra mile to help them all. Now is the time for us to help by supporting him!”

‘McDaniel acknowledged that he may have angered some parents by showing the film “An Inconvenient Truth” during a lesson about climate change’.

‘He explained to the Times-News that students were asked to write a paper on their thoughts about climate change after seeing the film’.

“I’m not looking for one answer, I just want them to be able to explain what they believe,” McDaniel said’.

“This sort of thing makes you worry about what you teach,” he added. “That’s not right.”

‘Anti-Marriage Equality Bishop: ‘Sexual Abuse Does Not Happen’ In Straight Marriages’

gay rights

My thought on this is ‘Keep YOUR God out of OUR  Government’.

Since we all don’t pray on YOUR  Bible, worship YOUR  God and live by YOUR interpretation of the Bible, give all equal rights.

‘As the Supreme Court weighed the constitutionality of California’s same-sex marriage ban, Proposition 8, the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) held a three-hour long rally justifying their opposition’.

‘One speaker, Bishop Harry Jackson Jr, argued that same-sex marriage was actually an attack on low-income urban communities’.

‘Jackson claimed that “urban America” could be “healed” by promoting heterosexual marriages’.

Bishop Jackson : “When a man and a woman are in the house, poverty is lessened. When a man and a woman are in the house, kids don’t go to prison. When a man and a woman are in the house, there’s less domestic violence. When a man and a woman are in the house, sexual abuse does not happen”.

‘Study Reveals Shocking Income Inequality In the U.S.’

income equality

I’ve posted the orginal video before but very, very well worth the time to post again and again and again…..

Parkman does his usual great job……

‘There’s an article on Alternet called “Five Ugly Extremes of Inequality In America” which David Pakman encourages you to read right now, because it’ll make “your chin drop to the floor.”

‘Did you know that a single person‘s income at the top could provide housing for every single homeless person in the United States for an entire year’?

Read that sentence again and think about it.

‘The top 10 wealthiest individuals for 2012 have more money than the entire housing budget for the U.S. government’.

Read that sentence again and think about it.

‘Post analysis of Dow 30 firms shows declining tax burden as a share of profits’

corporate taxes corporations need tax cuts

Quick….Republicans better give them a tax cut because afterall……..they’re the ‘job creators’.

‘Procter & Gamble, the Cincinnati-based company behind Pampers diapers and Tide detergent, reported a federal tax burden in 1969 that was 40 percent of its total profits, a typical rate in those days’.

‘More than four decades later, P&G is a very different company, with operations that span the globe. It also reports paying a very different portion of its profits in federal taxes: 15 percent’.

‘Executives have complained for years that their firms face the highest tax burden in the world, citing the United States’ 35 percent top corporate tax rate as the highest among developed economies’.

‘P&G chief executive Bob McDonald was among 20 business executives — including other leaders of Dow 30 companies such as General Electric’s Jeffrey Immelt and Wal-Mart’s Michael Duke — who met with Obama in November to discuss the country’s fiscal issues, including the tax code’.

‘The country needs to “make our tax system more competitive and .?.?. reduce the corporate tax rate,” P&G said in a statement ahead of the meeting’.

‘A Washington Post analysis of data from S&P Capital IQ, a research firm, found that in the late 1960s and early 1970s, companies listed on the current Dow 30 routinely cited U.S. federal tax expenses that were 25 to 50 percent of their worldwide profits. Now, most are reporting less than half that share’.

Who decides over our decreasing recources?
Government which people can still join in?
Or Industry which is controled by a few?

This is an excellent and very informative interview with Henry A. Giroux called The Violence of Neoliberalism and the Attack on Higher Education.  Of particular interest is the ideology of neoliberalism as Giroux defines it:  “As an ideology, it construes profit-making as the essence of democracy, consuming as the only operable form of citizenship, and an irrational belief in the market to solve all problems and serve as a model for structuring all social relations.”

So how much will the almighty dollar be worth once we have consumed all of the earth’s natural resources and left developing countries in ruins while ours crumbles from the inside?
