Gun Nuts Out Of Control – ‘The First Federal Gun Laws To Pass Since Newtown Are All NRA Approved’

Is it that we just don’t care or feel powerless against a lobby?

‘Six gun provisions were passed as riders attached to the resolution funding the government through September on Thursday’.

‘While all six had been federal law since 2004, each was approved by Congress on a year-to-year basis only’.

‘Now, four of the provisions are permanent’.

‘According to National Public Radio‘s Tamara Keith, the NRA “is the driving force behind these provisions.” Here they are’:

1) ‘Limit enforcement tools against crooked dealers. One rider would prevent Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) agents from shutting down gun stores due to “due to a lack of business activity,” arguably a sign of criminal sales’.

2) ‘Shield gun dealers who “lose” their guns. This legislation precludes any federal law that requires gun retailers to count their guns and submit the results as a mechanism of determining whether any weapons have been lost or stolen’.

3) ‘Interfere with ATF gun trace reports. The ATF is now mandated to include, in any reports concerning its tracing of guns back to crime, that trace data “cannot be used to draw broad conclusions about firearms-related crime.” Academic work on guns has used trace data to firmly establish that several firearm regulations effectively prevent the spread of guns to criminal’.

4) ‘Expand the class of protected guns. According to Roll Call‘s John Gramlich, the fourth permanent law would “place a broad definition of antique guns and ammunition that may be imported into the United States.”

Why it’s called the ‘Stupid Party’ – ‘GOP Chairman Suggests Mike Huckabee Should Be Party’s Ambassador On Gay Rights’

Now I like Mike Huckabee. I really do. Of my list of 5 people that I’d really want to have a conversation with, he is on that list.

He’s part of the ‘old politics’. You listen with respect to those that disagree with you and you don’t raise your voice to ‘prove’ you’re ‘right’.

In fact, 5 years ago if Huckabee had gotten into the race, I think he would have been elected President.

He ‘seems’ like a moderate. Isn’t but has gotten very, very good at looking like one.

So this is less about Huckabee (sort of) and more about Reince Priebus (Yes. I do miss Michael Steele).

‘Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus has been pressing the GOP to be more accepting of gay people, arguing that harsh rhetoric alienates young voters and jeopardizes the party’s future’.

‘Priebus cited former governor Mike Huckabee of Arkansas as an example of someone who could be “a model for a lot of people in our party” in terms of discussing issues like marriage and abortion’.

“I always tell people: Listen to Governor Mike Huckabee,” he said. “I don’t know anyone that talks about them any better.”

Mike Huchabee on Marriage Equality :

– ‘Being gay is a public health risk’.
“I feel homosexuality is an aberrant, unnatural, and sinful lifestyle, and we now know it can pose a dangerous public health risk”

– ‘Being gay is a sin’.
“Well I believe it would be — just like lying is sinful and stealing is sinful. There are a lot of things that are sinful. It doesn’t mean that a person is a horrible person. It means that they engage in behavior that is outside the norms of those boundaries of our traditional view of what’s right and what’s wrong. So, I think that anybody who has, maybe a traditional worldview of sexuality would classify that as an unusual behavior that is not traditional and that would be outside those bounds.”

– ‘Marriage equality will lead to polygamy’.
“If we change the definition to a man or a man and a woman and a woman, why can’t we accommodate a man and two women or a woman and three men.”

‘Mike Huchabee On Abortion’:

– ‘Supported Todd Akin’.
“The Party’s leaders have for reasons that aren’t rational, left [Akin] behind on the political battlefield…Is this what the party really thinks of principled pro-life advocates?”

– ‘Would ban abortion even in cases of incest or rape’.
‘In 2011, Huckabee traveled to Jackson, Mississippi to raise money for the Yes on 26 campaign, “in support of the Mississippi Personhood amendment, a referendum on the November ballot that would ban abortions in the state” even in cases of rape or incest’.

– ‘Compares abortion to slavery’.
“What are we saying to the generation coming after us when we tell them that it is perfectly OK for one person to own another human being?” Huckabee said. “I thought we dealt with that 150 years ago when the issue of slavery was finally settled in this country, and we decided that it no longer was a political issue, it wasn’t an issue of geography, it was an issue of morality. That it was either right or it was immoral that one person could own another human being and have full control even to the point of life and death over that other human being.”

What is wrong with the Republican Party – ‘The numbers prove it: The GOP is estranged from America’

repub values

When your ‘values’ represent an ever shrinking population and within that population become so extreme that the difference with the rest of the Country’s ‘values’ is the greatest then at any time in the last 25 years… have a problem.

But go ahead and create your own little reality.

You stick to your principles because everyone else is wrong.

The only problem is that you want to ‘take back your Country’ and are bringing it down so that everyone must live by your ‘values’….or else.

repub values1

‘The values gap between Republicans and Democrats is now greater than the one between men and women, young and old, or any racial or class divides’.

‘There was less diversity of values within the GOP than at any time in the past quarter-century’.

‘In our most recent national assessments, we found not only that the percentage of people self-identifying as Republicans had hit historic lows but that within that smaller base, the traditional divides between pro-business economic conservatives and social conservatives had narrowed’.

‘The Republican Party’s ratings now stand at a 20-year low, with just 33 percent of the public holding a favorable view of the party and 58 percent judging it unfavorably, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey’.

‘Although the Democrats are better regarded (47 percent favorable and 46 percent unfavorable), the GOP’s problems are its own, not a mirror image of renewed Democratic strength’.

‘Americans’ values and beliefs are more divided along partisan lines than at any time in the past 25 years’.

Sequester Time! – ‘Who’s in the tower? At some regional airports soon: Nobody’

sequester time

Now remember…..According to Republicans…..Cutting the size of Government helps ‘create jobs’.

Here’s the first sign of that economic ‘boom’ the Republicans promised us.

Oh and 1 right in my town!!

Thank You US 5th District Representative Republican Cathy McMorris-Rodgers for voting for the sequester and shutting down Gieger Field!!!!

Now where 5th District Representative Republican Cathy McMorris-Rodgers do the new jobs come from?

Frederick, Maryland (CNN) — ‘The Federal Aviation Administration on Friday told 149 regional airports across the country it would begin closing their air traffic control towers in April, but said it would spare another 40 towers that had been on the chopping block’.

‘The agency said the cuts are necessary to help meet $637 million in forced spending cuts’.

‘The tower closures will begin April 7 and will be phased in over four weeks, FAA Chief Operating Officer David Grizzle said in a memo obtained by CNN. Some towers were spared after the FAA considered appeals from towers, and consulted with the departments of defense and homeland security’.

‘Among those to be closed are towers at regional airports in Frederick, Maryland, and near St. Petersburg, Florida, that were built with federal stimulus money and have been open less than a year’.

‘The decision “will have both short-term and long-term effects,” warned the National Air Traffic Controllers Association’.

“These towers serve other important functions — including law enforcement activity, medical transport flights, search and rescue missions, business and commerce and supporting flight schools across America,” the association said in a statement’.
