Stories From The Fringe – ‘The Latest Obama Conspiracy Theory – A THIRD Term’!

3rd term1

‘Yep, that’s the latest among the right wing nut jobs. “Something” will happen – no, honestly, they aren’t specific at all! – and Obama will be so beloved that he will be elected to a third term’.

‘The main peddler of this latest whacked-out theory is Stansberry & Associates Investment Research, a publishing firm’.

‘They specialize in snake oil financial advice and have a history of promoting such nonsense. Recently they sent out emails signed by George Rayburn, a publisher with their company’.

3rd term

‘In them, they ask readers to imagine that it is 2015 and that “a specific event” – seriously, that’s what it says – will take place’.

‘This event will usher in a prosperous period for the U.S. and this is bad because it will “propel Obama to a near-unprecedented third term.”

‘There is a link to a full analysis of this scenario given in the email. They also link to a slideshow called “The Third Term — INSIDE: The Secret Plan to Retain Power Through 2020? The slideshow is little more than a scare piece, laying out how Obama will become a tyrant and implement “terrifying socialist policies.”

‘Their actual record on predictions isn’t quite so sunny’.

‘In 2010, they predicted violence and unrest along with the destruction of the American economy’.

‘That little gem, “End Of America,” completely contradicts this new theory. I guess it’s supposed to just be supplanted by this new bit of wingnuttery’.

‘Also suspect: in 2003, the firm was ordered by the SEC to pay $1.5 million in restitution and penalties for selling false financial information’.

‘Waitress Who Posted No-Tip Receipt From “Pastor” Customer Fired From Job’

The ‘pastor’ wrote I give God 10% , why should I give you 18%’

First of all what does God need money for?

You give 10% too your church.

That 10% is on your total income. The 18% is just on this check.

The waitress only gets $3.50 an hour.

Why don’t you ‘do unto others as you would have them do unto you’………

UPDATE: ‘The folks at The Smoking Gun have interviewed the pastor who left the receipt’.

“My heart is really broken because I got caught not because the waitress got canned,” she tells the site. “I’ve brought embarrassment to my church and ministry.”

‘The pastor claims that though she scratched out the automatic gratuity on the bill, she left a $6 cash tip at the table. She also alleges that the restaurant charged her the 18% tip anyway’.

A $6.00 tip for a table of 20? Everybody at the table should have left $6.00 in addition to the 18%.

‘Earlier this week, we posted a story about a restaurant customer who not only chose to deny the waitress a tip, but also wrote “I Give God 10% Why do you Get 18?” on the receipt’.

‘Now we’ve learned that the server who posted the receipt online has been fired’.

“I originally posted the note as a lighthearted joke,” says Chelsea, who was dismissed from her job at Applebee’s on Wednesday, as the story began to spread across the Internet’.

‘As posted originally on Reddit’s Atheist page, the image contained the customer’s full signature. Chelsea says she didn’t think to edit that out because she had assumed the name was illegible’.

‘Some time on Wednesday, Chelsea says the customer who had left the receipt contacted her Applebee’s location, demanding that everyone be fired, from the servers involved to the managers’.

‘According to Chelsea, until the receipt story got out there, her time at Applebee’s had been without incident’.

“I had been well-liked and respected,” she explains. “My sales were high, my managers had no problems with me, and I was even hoping to move up to management sometime this year’.

“But because this person got embarrassed that their selfishness was made public, Applebee’s has made it clear that they would rather lose a dedicated employee than lose an angry customer. That’s a policy I can’t understand.”

‘I can understand why someone could be upset with an automatic gratuity,” she admits’.

‘The customer’s bill had included an automatic tip of 18% because, according to Chelsea, it had been part of a table of 20’.

‘“It’s a plainly stated Applebee’s policy, and it is company policy for parties over eight. I cannot control the auto-gratuity at all; it’s done by the computer that the orders are put into, and the gratuity is not determined by the bill, but by the size of the party.”

‘Chelsea says that the customer told her manager that their reputation had been ruined by having the receipt posted on Reddit’.

“If this person wrote the note, obviously they wanted it seen by someone,” she points out. “It’s strange to me that now that the audience is wider than just the server, the person is now ashamed.”

Stories From The Fringe – ‘Idaho senator compares health exchange to Holocaust’

For most Idahoians, this is actually moderate.

BOISE – ‘As the debate over Idaho Gov. Butch Otter’s proposed state health insurance exchange heats up, a North Idaho senator has sent out a mass email and posted a message on Twitter comparing the role of insurance companies to “the Jews boarding the trains to concentration camps,” saying the federal government is using private insurers and in the future will “pull the trigger” on them’.

‘Sen. Sheryl Nuxoll, R-Cottonwood, defends her analogy. “I just want people to hear the truth and to be aware that what is being presented before us is a socialistic program,” Nuxoll said Wednesday’.

“Another Reason against the State Health Insurance Exchange,” said in full, “The insurance companies are creating their own tombs. Much like the Jews boarding the trains to concentration camps, private insurers are used by the feds to put the system in place because the federal government has no way to set up the exchange. Several years from now, the federal government will want nothing to do with private insurance companies. The feds will have a national system of health insurance and they will pull the trigger on the insurance companies.”

What is wrong with the Republican Party – ‘“Corporal Punishment” bill raises eyebrows’

corporal pubishment

‘Rep. Jerry O’Neil, R-Columbia Falls, has a bill that would allow criminal defendants to bargain with a judge for corporal punishment in lieu of time behind bars’.

‘You read that right’.

‘Spanking instead of jail time’.

‘According to the bill’ :

“…a person convicted of any offense by a court in this state, whether a misdemeanor or felony, may during a sentencing hearing as provided in 46-18-115 bargain with the court for the imposition of corporal punishment in lieu of or to reduce the term of any sentence of incarceration available to the court for imposition.”

“The court and the person convicted of an offense shall negotiate the exact nature of the corporal punishment to be imposed, which must be commensurate with the severity, nature, and degree of the harm caused by the offender. If the court and the offender cannot agree on the exact nature of the corporal punishment to be imposed, the court shall impose a sentence as provided in 46-18-201.”

“The imposition of a sentence under this section must be carried out by the sheriff of the county in which the crime occurred if the sentence for corporal punishment reduced or eliminated the term of incarceration in the county jail or by the department of corrections if the sentence reduced or eliminated the term of incarceration in the state prison. Any imposition of sentence pursuant to this section must be carried out within a reasonable time.”
