Gun Nuts Out Of Control – Even To Republicans! – ‘DOH! Open Microphone Reveals GOP’s REAL Feelings About ‘Crazy’ Pro-Gun Bill

gun nuts 1

‘A year ago, the Republican-led Iowa House of Representatives introduced two extreme pro-gun bills that, in the words of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, “would turn Iowa into the Wild, Wild West”.

‘And it was done in a way that didn’t allow for amendments to the bills, which caused Iowa’s Democratic Caucus to stage a six-hour walkout’.

‘One of the bills included “stand-your-ground” legislation, and the other was an open-carry-without-a-permit constitutional amendment allowing Iowans to “acquire, keep, possess, transport, carry, transfer and use arms to defend life and liberty and for all other legitimate purposes,’’ similar to Alaska’s gun regulation, giving it the nickname, “The Alaska Bill”.

‘These bills passed Iowa’s House but were stifled in Iowa’s Democratic-controlled Senate. And now, in the wake of hyperfocused gun legislation, Republicans are once again attempting to revive the bill’.

‘But are their hearts really in it’?

‘Do they really believe it would be the best thing for Iowa’?

‘Or do they perhaps think it’s a bad and dangerous idea’?

‘The Des Moines Register recently pointed out an interesting conversation amongst Iowa’s Republican leaders – a conversation they didn’t know was being overheard due to a live microphone’.

‘Majority Whip Erik Helland, who is on a subcommittee assigned to the controversial bill, laments over how he was blasted in a blog about the bill during the earwigged conversation. He then goes on to complain about his part in the Alaska bill’:

“I’m the dirty hatchet man for the [Republican] caucus. Something nobody wants to do, some dirty, nasty job. I’m the one who gets dropped in. You know why? Because I’m expendable.”

‘Speaker pro tem, Jeff Kaufmann, sympathizes with Helland’s plight, calling the Alaska Bill, “the crazy, give-a-handgun-to-a-schizophrenic bill.”

‘At that point, someone – an aide, perhaps – rushes to the rescue, informing the unwitting Republicans that their off-the-cuff conversation is being overheard via a hot mic, and the conversation comes to a quick halt’.

Conversation With A Conservative – Part 1 – Why America Is Failing – The Politics of Hate and Ignorance

sto be

I’m going to be very disrespectful to this ‘conservative’ that responded to a post I wrote : https://thelastofthemillenniums.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=5539&action=edit

These were the 23 Executive Orders that President Obama signed regarding ‘gun control’.

Of course none of them were ‘controled’. And in fact, the President couldn’t ‘control’ any guns.

That type of action would have to be legislative.

It was just amazing to me the ignorance this person displayed about current events, history and our Government.

This person does represent the Conservative movement and by defaault, the Republican Party.

A minority to be sure but one that over the last 3 years we have seen, tells the majority what they will do.
Jim Ellis
jimincoto@gmail.com – ‘There he goes again, using children as mere stage props.

ME – (The children or ‘stage props’ as you called them, were 4 that had written President Obama re: the shootings’.
Please see America Blog where there is a wonderful story over how Republicans have used children in photo ops also.)
– – – – – – –
Jim Ellis
jimincoto@gmail.com – (Remember the fake doctors in white lab coats?)

ME – You mean the 150 real doctors who some forgot/didn’t bring ‘lab coats’ as requested?
See : http://www.newser.com/story/71082/obama-gave-out-white-coats-for-doctor-photo-op.html

Jim Ellis
jimincoto@gmail.com – Hey, The One’s in good company; Stalin, Mao, Hitler and others did the same thing to great effect. So, why shouldn’t he do the same, right?

ME – (GRINS!) The only people who refer to the President as ‘The One’ are uninformed right wing fanatics. Look in a mirror if you wonder who they are.
Terms like that add nothing to the conversation so why do you use them?
Makes you feel like a big man?
It does show you have nothing intelligent to add.
Now as to Stalin, Mao and Hitler – Did they also have doctors wear ‘lab coats’?
It’s the only reason I can see you mentioned them.
– – – – – – –

Jim Ellis
jimincoto@gmail.com – Instead of providing these kids the same armed security his own children get, Obama exploits them to advance his own liberal political agenda.

ME – Actually the agents in the school are unarmed. Also, we the people via acts in Congress are the ones, knowing the importance, provide family members of the President with protection.
I’m confused as to who you think President Obama is ‘exploiting’ – his children or all other children?
– – – – – – –

Jim Ellis
jimincoto@gmail.com – Sadly, these kids will have to return to schools that are gun-free, except for predators, naturally. No armed guards or teachers allowed to carry concealed protection, and none of his 23 legislative proposals and executive actions will provide them.

ME – You’re right. We don’t live in a perfect World.
But do we want to raise our children in an America that stands for ‘freedom’ and ‘liberty’, the ‘greatest Nation in the World’ where we have to have armed guards in our schools?
– – – – – – –
OK. You really need to learn how our Government works. President Obama’s 23 Executive orders and not legislative proposals.
And if you were not blinded by ideological hate and ignorance, he does propose funding for additional police that can/will be used to add security to schools.
– – – – – – –
Jim Ellis
jimincoto@gmail.com-If, God forbid, we have another Sandy Hook, the blood will be on his hands.

ME – The blood will be on the hands of the shooter. A shooter with a weapon.
– – – – – – –
Jim Ellis
jimincoto@gmail.com- And why no mention yesterday of the rampant violence which permeates the movie industry? No “executive action” or proposal to at least consider that may be part of the problem. Oh, I forgot, it was his pals in Hollywood who helped get him reelected, and who received all those juicy tax breaks to avoid paying their “fair share.” What a blazing hypocrite.

ME – Again – learn how our Government actually works. Any action such as the ‘Practice Range’ app the NRA just put out, allowing the players to ‘shoot’ at coffin shaped targets, would fall under regulatory.
And that has to be legislative.
– – – – – – –
It is good to be passoinate about what you believe in. With your rant however, you show a good deal of ignorance re: the workings of our Government.
Also flaming ideology adds nothing.
Check it at the door.
Try to get informed and present intelligent arguments.

‘More Americans Have Died From Domestic Gunfire Than All Wars In U.S. History – Is That True’?

us gun deaths1

us gun deaths2

Sadly……yes.

‘PBS commentator, Mark Shields, made the claim on December 21, 2012, just a week after the Sandy Hook shootings, and during the PBS NewsHour with Judy Woodruff and Mark Gerson. From the show’s transcript’:

“You know, Judy, the reality is — and it’s a terrible reality — since Robert Kennedy died in the Ambassador Hotel on June 4, 1968, more Americans have died from gunfire than died in all the — all the wars, all the wars of this country’s history, from the Revolutionary through the Civil War, World War I, World War II, in those 43 years”.

‘Given what seemed to be a hyperbolic statement – more than all wars in U.S. history? – Pulitzer Prize-winning and fact-checking website, PolitiFact, decided to investigate Shield’s claim’.

‘Putting their iconic “Truth-O-Meter” to work, they came up with some startling facts’.

‘In considering all gun deaths in America since 1968, not just homicides, they gleaned their figures from databases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the FBI’.

‘War deaths were compiled using a comprehensive document prepared by the Congressional Research Service, as well as the website icasualties.org’.

‘The war dead statistics were arrived at by combining “all war-related deaths, not just those that occurred in combat,” which makes the fact that these numbers are dwarfed by domestic gun deaths all the more shocking’.

‘Simple arithmetic tells us Mark Shield’s statement is correct: gun deaths in America since only 1968 exceed the casualty totals of all U.S. wars by 212,994 deaths’.

The Second Amendment

gun nuts 2nd amend

‘Amendment II’
‘A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed’.

Our Founding Fathers wrote the Second Amendment with the knowledge that the ‘common use arm’ was the flintlock rifle and pistol.

Today’s ‘protectors of the Second Amendment’, want us to accept for ‘commom use’ weapons like the AR15.

23 seconds for 30 rounds.

Who would seroiusly think the Founding Fathers would make that a ‘right’?

The main rifle used during the Revoluntionary war was the flintlock :

And the AR15 :

SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, et al., PETITIONERS v.
DICK ANTHONY HELLER

Justice Scalia, Opinion of the Court

‘Of course the right was not unlimited, just as the First Amendment ’s right of free speech was not’.

‘Thus, we do not read the Second Amendment to protect the right of citizens to carry arms for any sort of confrontation, just as we do not read the First Amendment to protect the right of citizens to speak for any purpose’.

‘We therefore read Miller to say only that the Second Amendment does not protect those weapons not typically possessed by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes, such as short-barreled shotguns’.

‘ Like most rights, the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited’.

‘Although we do not undertake an exhaustive historical analysis today of the full scope of the Second Amendment , nothing in our opinion should be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms’.

‘We also recognize another important limitation on the right to keep and carry arms. Miller said, as we have explained, that the sorts of weapons protected were those “in common use at the time.”

But it’s NOT Republican Obstructionism – ‘Rand Paul Is Blocking Three Treaties To Catch Wealthy Tax Cheats

Rand Paul and Civil Rights

‘Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has been blocking treaties with Luxembourg, Hungary and Switzerland – all known tax havens with poor transparency – because of concerns that these treaties “allow the government to obtain a wide array of records without evidence that people may be hiding money”.

‘The problem of course is that these treaties provide evidence of illegal behavior otherwise the American government will have no evidence; additionally – this will only impact very wealthy people and corporations since your “average Joe” doesn’t have bank accounts in these countries’.

‘A Senator has the ability to block any bill or treaty he wishes. This is completely unacceptable’.

‘These treaties will not affect the average American’s privacy as Senator Paul likes to claim’.

‘Many of these bank accounts in foreign countries require significant sums like a million balance and they have costly monthly maintenance fees in return for secrecy’.

‘Senator Paul is only protecting the rich here’.

‘This is what trading favors looks like. If a person has $1 million in an overseas bank account – they have to disclose that. As long as these treaties are not in effect … Americans can hide as much money as they want without any sharing of financial information between governments’.

‘The net net in all of this of course is that while people like Mitt Romney and his brethren execute complicated tax avoidance schemes to pay significantly less in taxes as a % of their income than you do – they push that burden on to you’.

‘Meanwhile – Rand Paul is pushing for further cuts to Social Security and Medicare’.

Republicans in 2016 – ‘Jennifer Granholm Destroys Santorum’s Opposition To Gun Safety: ‘Why Do You Need An Armor Piercing Bullet?’

rick santorum2
First Rick Santorum wants to take America back 50 years.

Or maybe he just lives there in his thinking.

And then he stumbles around trying to explain why anyone needs armor piercing bullets to kill deer and ducks until (and you can see the light bulb come on) it finally dawns on him – ‘defending ourselves is a right in our Country’.
