A ‘Conservative’ vision for America – ‘House GOP Lets Violence Against Women Act Passed By Senate Die Without A Vote’

They want their Country back and that doesn’t include protecting women against violence…..

WASHINGTON — ‘Despite a late-stage intervention by Vice President Joe Biden, House Republican leaders failed to advance the Senate’s 2012 reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, an embattled bill that would have extended domestic violence protections to 30 million LGBT individuals, undocumented immigrants and Native American women’.

“The House leadership would not bring it up, just like they wouldn’t bring up funding for Sandy [hurricane damage] last night,” said Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.), a key backer of the Senate version of the bill. “I think they are still so kowtowing to the extreme on the right that they’re not even listening to the moderates, and particularly the women, in their caucus who are saying they support this.”

‘In April, the Senate with bipartisan support passed a version of VAWA that extended protections to three groups of domestic violence victims who had not been covered by the original law, but House Republicans refused to support the legislation with those provisions, saying the measures were politically driven’.

‘Instead, they passed their own VAWA bill without the additional protections’.

This is one of the extremely few instances where I agree with republicans for VAWA clearly takes away the right of due process from the male gender and targets men for prosecution while ignoring the incidents of domestic violence women commit against their partners and children.

    • Does it take away the right of due process from men?
Now I will have to look into that.
The act is named ‘Violence Against Women Act so understandable, doesn’t cover violence against men. But is this legislation much like ‘hate crime’ legislation and adding protection of LGBT and Native Americans?
Domestic violence legislation is in place and covers violence against men.
Give me about a week and I’ll look into it as to why or if VAWV takes away due process or if the due process (of women against men) is already covered under other legislation.

It s not so much how a law is written but how the govt. agency in charge of enforcing it chooses to enforce that law. VAWA was not only unnecessary – there are others laws in regards to violence against individuals – it is both sexist and violates the equal protection clause of the US Constitution because it only protects the feminine gender while targeting the male gender for prosecution. The real reason Joe Biden wrote VAWA was to keep NOW from going bankrupt and to give the domestic violence industry access to the US treasury as well as to the fund the myth that men are always the aggressors while women are always the victims. Thus encouraging police departments to actively discriminate against men suffering at the hands of their violent intimate partner while giving violent female offenders a pass.

      • ‘According to the VAWA Act, a domestic violence misdemeanor is one in which someone is convicted for a crime “committed by an intimate partner, parent, or guardian of the victim that required the use or attempted use of physical force or the threatened use of a deadly weapon” (Section 922 (g)[9]). Under these guidelines, an intimate partner is a spouse, a former spouse, a person who shares a child in common with the victim, or a person who cohabits or has cohabited with the victim’.

Just so you know I never take any group at their word unless their actions match up with what they preach. For words are almost always used to deceive the unwary while it is the actions of the group in question that tells the true tale. 🙂
