Will You Be Better Off? – ‘GOP Senate Candidate Supports Life Sentences For Rape Victims Who Obtain Abortions’

This is the ‘new’ Republican Party.

Will YOU be better off?

‘Rep. Rick Berg (R-ND), the candidate for Senate from North Dakota, once voted for a bill that would have made any woman who obtained an abortion guilty of a homicide crime — even if it were in the case of rape or incest. Indeed, the bill Berg supported does not even contain an explicit exception if an abortion is necessary to save the woman’s life’.

The Weekly 2012 – Fixing America – Preface

I noticed trending this AM that last week the Republicans ‘theme’ on the early morning talk shows was ‘it’s Obama’s fault’.

This AM I noticed on the same shows that the Democrats ‘theme’ is talking about legislation. The Jobs Act, tax on Millionaires, infrastructure spending, education.
Not blaming the Republicans but wanting to discuss actual legislation.

Interesting differences in ‘visions’.

The Republican ‘I’ve got mine’ vs the Democrats ‘paying it forward’.

Watching the ‘Romney Bounce’ way too quickly dribble to a stop and then turn negative, I’m sticking with Romney wins the popular vote and Obama wins the electoral – and very easily.

I revceived a response from (cough) an ‘Independent’ the other day and in it he/she said we needed to talk about issues in order to ‘fix America’.

We can’t ‘fix’ America and on two fronts.

#1 – When you have a minority within a political party who’s mantra is ‘No Compromise’, it completley stops ANY discussion of issues.
See : ‘No Compromise when you’re Right’!
@ :

This Nation was founded on compromise. The biggest compromise of all was our ‘Bill Of Rights’.

Imagine not having the ‘Bill Of Rights’.

The other ‘front’ in which we can’t ‘fix’ America is that we have 3 dynamics that are slowing destroying America.

#1 – Individual States legislating ‘voter ID’s.
There can and should be a National standard for voter identification but NOT individual States.
And such a National ID should be to encourage voting not supress it.
Individual States are subject to political ideology.
See : ‘Pennsylvania state senator: Voter ID law is about ‘suppressing votes’

#2 – The failure of our ‘free press’.
Ben Franklin is famous for responding to an inquiry – “A Republic if you can keep it”.
More then any other dynamic, either we have failed our ‘freedom of the press’ by our apathy or our press has failed us by turning to ‘news for profit’.
The failure of an informed public.
Our ‘freedom of the press’ has converted to purchase stories for political ideology.

#3 – Money in politics.
Just as ‘corporations are NOT people’, money is NOT free speech.
But that’s only advertising.
The other side to the corruption of money in politics is direct purchase by the wealthy of direct influence.
So called ‘public service’ is now openly subject to financial influence peddling for political ideological as well as financial gain.

So can we ‘fix’ America?

Oh we can but it will require an almost, I repeat ALMOST collaspe of our social, economic and political society.

And that is why I’m voting to re-elect President Obama.

I think that will happen and likely spurred on by Greece (maybe Portugal and Spain also) leaving the EU. The economic ripples will greatly affect us here and with our economy already very tenative, be it before or after the election, the economics of it will affect the political and that will affect the social.

We can’t ‘fix’ America but if we have compassionate men and women as leaders, those who DON’T think that ‘corporations are people’, those who DON’T think that money is speech, those who DON’T ‘demand’ to legislate morality, I think we can remake America and strangley enough – much in the image of what our Founding Fathers wanted.
