‘Priorities ad ties Romney to lost health insurance, cancer death’

And Romney’s response?

It’s a ‘distraction’.

‘The commercial casts Mitt Romney’s business background in a severely negative light, but it’s not a typical slash-and-burn attack ad. Instead, it features former GST Steel employee Joe Soptic speaking to the camera about what happened when the plant where he worked shut down’.

“I don’t think Mitt Romney understands what he’s done to people’s lives by closing the plant. I don’t think he realizes that people’s lives completely changed,” Soptic said. “When Mitt Romney and Bain closed the plant, I lost my healthcare and my family lost their healthcare. And a short time after that my wife became ill.”

‘He continues: “I don’t know how long she was sick and I think maybe she didn’t say anything because she knew that we couldn’t afford the insurance. And then one day she became ill and I took her up to the Jackson County Hospital and admitted her for pneumonia and that’s when they found the cancer and by then it was stage four. It was – there was nothing they could do for her. And she passed away in 22 days”.

“I do not think Mitt Romney realizes what he’s done to anyone,” Soptic concludes. “And furthermore, I do not think Mitt Romney is concerned.”

‘Romney launches new attack on Obama over welfare’

Come on Republicans. Find SOMEONE who at the very least can remember what they said and did.

Just being AGAINST anything Obama does IS NOT a ‘vision’ for America.

WOLFEBORO, N.H. —’Mitt Romney’s campaign is launching a new offensive on Tuesday accusing President Obama of “unilaterally dismantling” the 1990s bipartisan welfare reform’.
From :

Except it was the same ‘attack’ he lamely hauled out 3 weeks ago only to have a letter he signed in 2005 saying he supported the same welfare waviers.

‘Mitt Romney Retroactively Opposes Welfare Waivers He Supported As Governor’

‘But in 2005, Romney’s signature appeared on a letter from the Republican Governor’s Association to congressional leadership. The letter states explicit support for welfare waivers’.

“The Senate bill provides states with the flexibility to manage their TANF programs and effectively serve low-income populations,” the letter said. “Increased waiver authority, allowable work activities, availability of partial work credit, and the ability to coordinate state programs are all important aspects of moving recipients from welfare to work.”

What is Mitt Romney Hiding? – ‘Reid: Romney issue ‘nothing to do with me’

George Romney after releasing 12 years of tax returns  : “One year could be a fluke, perhaps done for show.”

“No one should feel sorry for me,” Reid said in Las Vegas on Monday afternoon during a preview of a clean energy summit he’s hosting there Tuesday, even as his incendiary remarks about Romney have turned the GOP magnifying glass onto himself’.

“The issue that I raised has nothing to do with me,” Reid told reporters. “It has everything to do with the first presidential candidate in more than 30 years who refuses to show the American people his income tax returns.”

Even Politifact says – Mitt Romney Lies – ‘Mitt Romney says a lawsuit filed by President Obama’s campaign challenges voting privileges for the military’

“President Obama’s lawsuit claims it is unconstitutional for Ohio to allow servicemen and women extended early voting privileges during the state’s early voting period”.
‘Mitt Romney on Saturday, August 4th, 2012 in a press statement’

Politifact : ‘We rate the claim False’.

‘After some Ohio voters faced hours-long lines at polling places during the 2004 presidential election, the state adopted reforms designed to prevent similar problems in the future. Those reforms included allowing voters to cast ballots at county boards of elections for an extended period before elections. In 2008, Barack Obama’s presidential campaign used those new laws to its advantage. The campaign made particular use of voting the Sunday before elections in Ohio and other states as African-American churches organized “Souls to the Polls” events that took congregants to vote after religious services’.

‘Republicans who control Ohio’s state government passed a law last year that would have reduced the time frame for early voting from five weeks to three, eliminated most weekend voting hours and dropped a requirement that poll workers redirect voters to the correct precinct if they show up at the wrong one in a location that hosts multiple precincts. Ohio legislators repealed that law when it became clear it would face a referendum this year, though its ban on early voting on the weekend before elections remained in place because it was part of a separate law. Democrats including U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown say Republicans wanted to eliminate that weekend’s early voting to cut turnout among African-Americans who vote after church, a demographic likely to vote for Obama. Brown said that in 2008, up to 19 percent of Ohio voters cast their ballots during the weekend before the election’.

‘Last month, President Obama’s re-election campaign filed a lawsuit against Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted to demand that in-person voting be allowed during the three-day weekend before elections. It noted that approximately 93,000 Ohioans voted in the three days before the 2008 presidential election. The lawsuit argues that all Ohio voters should be permitted to cast ballots that weekend, as members of the U.S. military are permitted to do’.

‘Former Democratic congressman John Boccieri of Alliance, a Lt. Col. in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, issued a statement that accused Republicans of distortion’.

“This is about restoring equal and fair access to early voting and in no way asks for restrictions to voting,” Boccieri said. “Anything said otherwise is completely false. Period. And as a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the AMVETS, I find these claims outrageous.”

‘Indeed, Obama’s lawsuit clearly states that it seeks to permit all Ohioans – not just members of the U.S. military – to vote during the three days before the election, as was the case in 2008. The suit in no way suggests restricting early voting by members of the military’.

‘It is simply dishonest for Romney and his backers to claim that Obama’s effort to extend early voting privileges to everyone in Ohio constitutes an attack on military voters’ ability to cast ballots on the weekend before elections’.

‘We rate the claim False’.

Mitt Romney Lies #55 – ‘Mitt Romney’s Family Trusts Continued To Buy Stocks That Clashed With Divestment Pledge Until 2010’

Oh but WAIT! They’re in a ‘blind trust’…..

‘The continual trading between 2006 and 2010 raises questions about why the investments continued for three years, even after Romney said in 2007 that the trust would sell off any conflicted holdings’.

‘Recently disclosed tax returns for three family trust funds for Romney, his wife, Ann, and their adult children show scores of trades in companies whose business operations are inconsistent with Republican Party stances that Romney favors on Iran, China, stem cell research, abortion and other issues’.

‘A Romney campaign spokeswoman, Andrea Saul, said the former Massachusetts governor has no control over the investments made by his blind trust, but the trustee has tried to manage the trades “in a manner consistent with Gov. Romney’s publicly expressed positions.”

‘The continual trading between 2006 and 2010 raises questions about why the investments continued for three years, even after Romney said in 2007 that the trust would sell off any conflicted holdings. Those trades came during a period when Romney has sought to convince voters of his conservative Republican values. The trades also raise questions about whether any of the transactions were vetted for possible conflicts or political perception before they were made’.

“Financially, these would seem to be completely legitimate investments,” said Thomas B. Cooke, a professor of business law at Georgetown University and former president of the National Society of Tax Professionals. “But for someone running for president, there’s also a smell test.”

‘Critics have warned that concerns about the steady flow of income from Bain are made more acute by Romney’s long-standing decision to withhold crucial details about his Bain separation agreement, leaving voters with little information about his continuing ties to the firm’.

“While he may not be actively managing the business anymore, he remains financially linked to them,” said Victor Fleischer, a University of Colorado law professor and private equity expert who has testified before Congress on complex finance issues. “The point of financial disclosure is to communicate the full extent of one’s potential conflict of interest, and until he discloses the severance agreement, we don’t know whether he’d manage the country on our behalf or be influenced by his ongoing relationship with Bain Capital.”

‘Under typical private equity arrangements, the Romney trust could receive interest from the “Bain Capital Partners (AM) X” investment fund over the next five to seven years, Wilkins said — meaning that Romney’s Bain Capital income might continue flowing through 2017’.

‘And because that income is treated as long-term capital gains, Romney would pay taxes on the earn-outs at the 15 percent capital gains tax rate, well below the higher rates paid by many middle-class American taxpayers’.

‘Romney Persona Non Grata in Italy for Bain’s Deal Skirting Taxes’

“With this investment, Mitt Romney and Bain Capital, with its consortium partners, partnered with a new management team to transform this company, and grow it into a tremendous success,” said Michele Davis, a spokeswoman for Romney’s presidential campaign. “Mitt Romney is running for President to put that experience to work.”

‘The buyer, Italy’s biggest telephone company, now has a total market value less than what it paid Bain and other investors for the directory business’.

And the ‘investment’?

It’s called ‘extraction’ and creates wealth for the investors.

‘Romney as chief executive officer, made about $1 billion in a leveraged buyout 12 years ago that remains controversial in Italy to this day. Bain was part of a group that bought a telephone-directory company from the Italian government and then sold it about two years later, at the peak of the technology bubble, for about 25 times what it paid’.

‘Bain funneled profits through subsidiaries in Luxembourg, a common corporate strategy for avoiding income taxes in other European countries, according to documents reviewed by Bloomberg News. The buyer, Italy’s biggest telephone company, now has a total market value less than what it paid Bain and other investors for the directory business’.

Sunday Picks – The Seattle Seahawks sign Terrell Owns

Seahawk fans react to Terrell Ownes getting a 1 year contract :

And people were questioning me on picking them 3rd in their disision?

3rd may have been too high.

So you go out and get a well past their prime (2004) – ‘BIG FRAME’ guy who just brings all kinds of crap to the locker room and off field.

Remember this? : ‘During a Monday Night Football game against the Seattle Seahawks on October 14, 2002, Owens pulled a Sharpie marker out of his sock to sign the football he caught to score a touchdown, and then gave the ball to the financial adviser of Shawn Springs, who was covering Owens on the play’.
From :

Yeah. That’ll help the team.

‘The 38-year-old Owens didn’t get any NFL offers to play last season after surgery on his left knee’.

‘Owens had 35 catches for 420 yards and 10 touchdowns while playing eight of 11 games for the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League. He was released and lost an ownership stake in the team in May’.

‘Owens is the latest veteran receiver the Seahawks have signed since training camp began. It started when the Seahawks brought in Antonio Bryant, but he was cut late last week. Seattle also signed Braylon Edwards, who played sparingly in 2011 with San Francisco during an injury-filled season’.

‘Seattle is seeking both insurance and a complement for Sidney Rice’.

‘Additionally, the Seahawks cut No. 2 receiver Mike Williams in July, and Golden Tate, Doug Baldwin and Ben Obomanu, the Seahawks’ main options for filling that role, don’t fit head coach Pete Carroll’s desire to have another tall receiver with a big frame’.

‘Obama on rival’s tax plan: ‘It’s like Robin Hood in reverse. It’s Romney Hood.’

STAMFORD, Conn. — ‘President Obama has a new shorthand to belittle Republican rival Mitt Romney’s economic plan’.

‘Speaking to supporters here Monday, Obama ripped Romney’s proposed tax plan, which, the president said, would provide a tax cut for the richest 2 percent of Americans — and pay for it by raising taxes on the middle class’.

“It’s like Robin Hood in reverse,” Obama said. “It’s Romney Hood.”

A ‘Conservative’ vision for America – ‘Cheney Seeks to Clarify Sarah Palin ‘Mistake’ Remark’

Even old Dick is running scared of the tea baggers.

‘Cheney Gets Palinized in Tea Party Food Fight’

@ :

That’s how pitiful the Republican party has become.

Republicans hate Obama more then they love America.

Since they won’t shut down the Government in September………..
See : ‘“The time to pick a fight on a government shutdown is not now,” said Senator Jim DeMint, a South Carolina Republican and co-founder of the chamber’s Tea Party Caucus. “Our country is under a cloud of uncertainty.”
@ :

………….because of the political blow back, let’s wait until next March when they shut the Government down because they want deeper cuts to domestic programs and increased spending on the military.

“It wasn’t aimed so much at Gov. Palin as it was against the basic process that McCain used,” Cheney said. “My point basically dealt with the process in terms of that basic requirement, is this person prepared to step in to be president of the United States when they’re picked? And it was my judgment — I was asked if I thought the McCain process in ’08 had been well done or was it a mistake, and I said I thought it was a mistake. That’s not…meant so much as a criticism of Gov. Palin as it is that I just thought it was not — the process didn’t meet the standards I would like to see our candidate pursue when they pick a — a running mate.”

Money in Politics – ‘GOP Senators Press IRS on Rule Changes’

Much like Mitt Romney’s taxes………..some things we, ‘We The People’, the American public, aren’t suppose to know………………….

‘Senate Republicans Filibuster DISCLOSE Act ‘
From :

Matt Lauer : “Are there no fair questions about the distribution of wealth without it being seen as envy, though?”

Mitt Romney : “You know I think it’s fine to talk about those things in quiet rooms..”

‘A group of Republican senators is pressing the Internal Revenue Service for more information on its plans to consider changing regulations of politically active non-profit groups like Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS, which have been accused of misusing their tax-exempt status to influence elections’.

‘The letter from Sen. Orrin Hatch (R., Utah), the top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, and nine other Republican Senators is the latest in a battle that involves tax-exempt groups like Crossroads GPS, which has been trying to boost Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. The group, known as a 501c(4) after the section of the tax code under which it operates, has spent more than $50 million on television ads in the last three months alone, either to attack U.S. President Barack Obama or promote Mr. Romney’.

‘The money has drawn the attention of groups like Democracy 21, which has asked the IRS to investigate Crossroads GPS and to tightly define which groups can qualify for 501c(4) status, which allows the groups to keep the identity of their donors a secret. The IRS wrote last month that it would “consider proposed changes in this area.”
