What is Mitt Romney Hiding – ‘Romney: Harry Reid needs to ‘put up or shut up’ on charges about taxes’

Think about this.

Mitt Romney could destroy Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid AND the credibility of ALL Democrats by releasing even just 3 years of tax returns showing that he paid at least as much as he did in 2010.

So why won’t he?

“It’s time for Harry to put up or shut up,” Romney said on Sean Hannity’s radio show. “Harry’s going to have to describe who it is he spoke with because that’s totally and completely wrong. It’s untrue, dishonest and inaccurate. It’s wrong. So I’m looking forward to have Harry reveal his sources and we’ll probably find out it’s the White House.”

‘After Romney made his remarks, Reid released a statementby his original allegations, saying it is “clear Romney is hiding something.”

“People who make as much money as Mitt Romney have many tricks at their disposal to avoid paying taxes. We already know that Romney has exploited many of these loopholes, stashing his money in secret, overseas accounts in places like Switzerland and the Cayman Islands,” he said late Thursday’.

“When it comes to answering the legitimate questions the American people have about whether he avoided paying his fair share in taxes or why he opened a Swiss bank account, Romney has shut up. But as a presidential candidate, it’s his obligation to put up, and release several years’ worth of tax returns just like nominees of both parties have done for decades,” he added’.

‘Reid concluded: “There is only one thing he can do to clear this up, and that’s release his tax returns.”

‘The Senate Democratic leader, who has played an attack dog role for President Obama in the past, said earlier this week a Bain Capital investor called his office to tell him that Romney had avoided paying income taxes’.

‘Reid said the investor told him: “Harry, he didn’t pay any taxes for 10 years,” according to the Huffington Post’.

‘He doubled down on his remarks on Thursday, taking to the Senate floor to repeat his allegations’.

“So the word is out that [Romney] hasn’t paid any taxes for 10 years. Let him prove that he has paid taxes, because he hasn’t. We already know that from one partial tax return that he gave us, he has money hidden in Bermuda, the Cayman Islands and a Swiss bank account,” Reid said’.

Blog Running – ‘I’m Sorry, Follks, But This Really and Truly IS Wimpy’

Great stuff! And when your rightie tightie friends say where’s Obama’s plan you can point to The American Jobs Act that the Republcians in the Senate keep fiflbustering.
See : ‘Senate Republicans Block American Jobs Act’
@ : http://crooksandliars.com/karoli/senate-filibusters-american-jobs-act

And be sure to ask your Republican friends just how is Mitt going to pay for all of this?
See : ‘On the Distributional Effects of Base-Broadening Income Tax Reform’

Or…….

@ : http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/08/01/us-usa-taxes-romney-idUSBRE8700PC20120801
‘So I read via Greg Sargent that Romney has released a new plan for the middle class today. So I go over to his web site to have a gander’.
See : ‘Mitt Romney’s Plan For A Stronger Middle Class’
@ : http://www.mittromney.com/blogs/mitts-view/2012/08/mitt-romneys-plan-stronger-middle-class01

‘There, I see this image. It’s a one-page sheet headed “Mitt Romney’s Plan for a Stronger Middle Class,” and below it are five subject headings, and under each of the five subject headings are four bullet point. Below the image it says, “Click here to download a printable copy.” That’s where I think, oh, okay, I will click here and be taken through to the explanations and supporting material, maybe 20 or 25 pages of stuff to read would be about usual’.

‘So I click. And I get a larger image of the one-page thing. In other words, that’s it! That’s the plan! Unbelievable’.

‘So here, for example, is the “plan” for how President Romney is going to ensure that the middle class has “The Skills to Succeed”:

*Give every family access to a great school and quality teachers’

*Provide access to affordable and effective higher education options’

*Focus job training programs on building valuable skills that align with opportunities’

*Attract and retain the best and the brightest from around the world’.

‘Well, mirabile dictu. That’ll fix everything’!

‘But seriously, this is pathetic. This is not a plan. These are goals and vague notions, most of which are already in place, some of which are terrible ideas (deregulate the coal industry), others of which are vastly oversold to the American public (the Keystone pipeline). But it’s just amazing that they’re touting as a “plan” something that’s a one-page flier. But it’s not really, because it all fits together. Sad’.

Great post and a very interesting blog.

The YouTube Politician

This is going to be one of my few open ended posts. I don’t want to put too much opinion into this piece, only facts, and I’ll leave it up to you to comment/make a final decision for yourself. I encourage everyone to leave a comment, I’d really like to know what you think of this predicament.

As all of you know, the U.S. government is having the worst debt problem in its entire history. We are over 16 trillion dollars in debt, we’ve lost our triple A credit rating and deficits are not decreasing so debt is still rising. There are many states that are suffering from huge deficits as well. The reason our government is having deficit problems is, to put it simply, it is spending too much. On what, you may ask?

Weekly 2012 – ‘Romney’s Personal Image Remains Negative’

‘By a 52% to 37% margin, more voters say they have an unfavorable than favorable view of Mitt Romney. The poll, conducted prior to Romney’s recent overseas trip’.

And this is why I wanted President Obama to run against the Republican Do-Nothing House and Republican Obstructionist Senate.

See : ‘House Republicans Fear They Really Are a Do-Nothing Congress’
‘But When Fox News’ Chris Wallace asked Boehner on Sunday why this Congress has been one of the least productive ever — 80 laws were passed and a fifth of them were formalities — the speaker said he was just concentrating on “quantity over quality’.

(Silly me. I thought Boehner was ALL about JOBS.

Mitt Romney ‘peaked’ after ‘winning’ the nomination by simply out spending and wearing down his opponents. Those being Newt Gingrich, Herman Cain, Rich Perry, Donald Trump, Michelle Bachmann.
So not the greatest feat in the World.

See : ‘Aug. 1: Obama Extends Electoral College Advantage’

Since it wasn’t going to be Mike Huckabee, Jeb Bush or Chris Christie, all intelligent, great debaters, and except for Huckabee, moderate Conservatives (yet Huckabee can present himself as having common sense), I was certain that Obama could defeat any one else so if he concentrated his efforts on the Republicans in the House and Senate, he could highlight CLEARLY why our Country is stalled.

Republicans in the House placing the interests of business and religion above serving the people and the Republicans in the Senate simply filibustering anything that would make President Obama look good.

Now come November (90 days), Romney can’t change his public preception of being a uncaring rich guy and we still have a Republican House, Democratic Senate (although closer) and President Obama.

Gridlock.

Much like President Obama passing on adopting Simpson Bowles and not campaigning in Wisconson againt Walker, I think not running agaist the Republican obstruction in the Congress was a missed opportunity to actually change the dialog, have an open and honest debate on the role money has in politics and how that money corrupts the needs of the people over the influence of special interests.

A ‘Conservative’ vision for America – ‘American Enterprise Institute: U.S. Austerity Measures Hurting Broader Economy’

‘The American Enterprise Institute, a conservative-leaning think tank, has some data out indicating that cutting government spending may be off-setting private sector growth. That’s notable, especially when coming from an organization with the motto “Freedom. Opportunity. Enterprise.”
See : ‘Federal Spending Cutbacks Slow Recovery’
‘Sharp Drop in Military, Stimulus Spending Take a Toll on Economic Rebound’

But Wait! The Republicans say that the ‘stimulus’DIDN’T create ANY jobs!
SO and I’ll type real slow for my so called Conservative friends – IF the Stulus DIDN’T create ANY jobs…………..then how could a DROP in stimulus spending SLOW the economy?
Isn’t CUTTING spending suppose to CREATE jobs?

‘Public sector GDP — a measure of the goods and services produced by the government — has shrunk for eight consecutive quarters, according to AEI. At the same time, private sector growth has increased for 12 quarters in a row, indicating that America’s slow overall GDP growth may mostly be a result of a drop in government spending’.

‘In just the last year, federal spending has fallen more than 3 percent, and the cuts may be countering private-sector growth, the Wall Street Journal reports’.
