Mitt Romney Lies #16 – “(Obama) is not responsible for whatever improvement we might be seeing”

“Instead he is responsible for the fact that it’s taken so long to see this recovery and the recovery is so tepid.”

‘The data are straightforward. Barack Obama entered office in 2009 as the Bush recession was in full swing.

‘GDP had plummeted by a shocking 8.9 percent the previous quarter. 820,000 jobs were lost in January 2009 alone; all told 2.2 million evaporated in the three months before Obama’s stimulus was passed in February. (That might explain why even three years after he left office, Americans still blame George W. Bush’

‘and a return to economic growth. And despite Romney’s charge that President Obama’s are “the most anti-investment, anti-business, anti-jobs series of polices in modern American history,” the Dow Jones has jumped by 56 percent since January 20, 2009. Corporate profits are at record highs even as firms’ tax burden continues to drop’.

‘Nevertheless, Governor Romney told a Missouri audience last week that that the President “slowed the recovery and harmed our economy,” a result Romney insisted constituted “a moral failure of tragic proportions.” Sadly for his campaign’s mythmaking, just 24 hours earlier, the director of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office blew the Romney’s bogus claim out of the water’.

And they call Unions ‘thuggish’ – ‘Military-Industrial Complex Doles Out Threats on Trigger Cuts’ – The Politics Of Fear

‘Facing economic uncertainty, defense contractors are plotting to spur Congress to nix the automatic budget cuts set to begin next year’.

‘The plan? Threaten to send out layoff notices — hundreds of thousands of them, right before Election Day’.

‘Congress, industry leaders contend, has left them few options. Federal law, they say, requires employers to give notice of 60 days to workers facing layoffs’.

‘For President Barack Obama and congressional incumbents, the timing couldn’t be worse. With the automatic cuts, called sequestration, set to begin taking effect on Jan. 2, the layoff notices would have to be sent out by Nov. 2 — four days before this fall’s elections’.

‘They don’t call it a military-industrial complex for nothing. And this is why their plants are in every district, in every state, all over the country’.

A ‘Conservative’ vision for America – Austerity – ‘Bank shares jump on new business support plans’

Who should control America?

Mitt Romney, Republicans and business?

Or President Obama and the American people?

Cutting spending DOES NOT create jobs. By it’s very defination, it CUTS money available to hire, build, grow.

But that is exactly what Republicans (as President Obama said) want to do.
See : ‘Ryan Budget Cuts Spending by $6.2 Trillion’
@ :

We are in a recession, trying to come out of it and Republicans want to CUT SPENDING. Selling us on the concept, proven wrong, that this will spur a surge in economic growth.

There can only be economic growth if MONEY IS SPENT. Private business WON’T.
See : ‘Companies Have Been Holding More Cash For Decades’
‘”If you think of the long-term trend, part of it that had to do with an increase in uncertainty at the firm level,” he said. “Obviously, the crisis led firms to feel very uncertain.”
@ :

And with a CEO and President Romney, a Republican House and Senate, taxes will be cut, regulations will be cut. America will be for profit.

Taxes will be ‘burdensome’ to business, stiffling growth, so when we fight wars, the middle class will pay all of the bill. Need to repair roads? The middle class will pay for it. Police departments? Fire dfepartments? Public education? Health care?
Business can not be taxed as that would hinder growth.

And ‘burdensome regulation’?
Again these will only restrain growth as they cost business.
Labor laws. Minimum wage. 40 hour work week. Paid vacations. Paid holidays. Health care.

So if business WON’T, Government must. Either that or a ‘double dip recession :
See : ‘Rx for a double-dip recession: Cut government spending by 15 percent’
@ :

We can learn by what is happening in Englans and the EU.

And cutting spending is making the recession worse.

‘The Bank of England’s announcement of the plans on Thursday comes in response to the worsening economic outlook, governor Sir Mervyn King has said’.

‘Together with the government, it will provide billions of pounds of cheap credit to banks to lend to companies’.
‘Banks will also have access to short-term money to deal with “exceptional market stresses”. The chancellor said the measures would “inject confidence”.

‘But Labour’s Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls said the measure would not be enough to help without the Government also changing course on its austerity plans’.

‘In his annual Mansion House speech, Chancellor George Osborne said the stimulus packages would “support the flow of credit to where it is needed in the real economy”.

‘The crisis had also created a “large black cloud of uncertainty” over the global economy, meaning companies and households were cutting back on spending’.

‘Signs of a slowdown in China, India and other “previously buoyant emerging economies” added to the “ugly picture” and meant further action was needed, the governor said’.

President Obama’s speech – ‘Yes, Romney’s Vision for America Really Is That Scary’

President Obama : “At stake is not simply a choice between two candidates or two political parties, but between two paths for our country. And while there are many things to discuss in this campaign, nothing is more important than an honest debate about where these two paths would lead us”.
From :

But you can’t have an ‘honset’ debate if Mitt Romney keeps lying.

President Obama’s speech is filled with facts.

Mitt Romney’s was filled with fear.

‘Obama made three big claims about Romney’s agenda, starting with a claim about Romney’s proposed tax cut’:

“an independent study said that about 70 percent of this new $5 trillion tax cut would go to folks making over $200,000 a year. And folks making over a million dollars a year would get an average tax cut of about 25 percent”.

‘That comes straight from a study by the Joint Tax Center, a project of the Urban Institute and Brookings Institution. Just to make sure the citation was correct, I checked with Howard Gleckman, a resident fellow at Urban. He confirmed it’.
See :

‘Obama also talked about the impact of repealing the Affordable Care Act and transforming Medicaid into a limited block grant (i.e., giving the states a pre-determined amount of money)’.

“Not only does their plan eliminate health insurance for 33 million Americans by repealing the Affordable Care Act, according to the independent Kaiser Family Foundation, it would also take away coverage from another 19 million Americans who rely on Medicaid, including millions of nursing home patients and families who have children with autism and other disabilities”.

‘As Obama says, this comes straight from the Kaiser Family Foundation, which commissioned a study by experts at the Urban Institute’.
See :

‘Finally, Obama described the effects of capping federal spending at 20 percent of gross domestic product, while setting aside 4 percent for defense spending’.

“They haven’t specified exactly where the knife would fall, but here’s some of what would happen if that cut that they proposed was spread evenly across the budget”.

“10 million college students would lose an average of a thousand dollars each on financial aid. 200,000 children would lose the chance to get an early education in the Head Start program. There would be 1,600 fewer medical research grants for things like Alzheimer’s and cancer and AIDS; 4,000 fewer scientific research grants, eliminating support for 48,000 researchers, students and teachers”.

“Now, again, they have not specified which of these cuts they choose from, but if they want to make smaller cuts to areas like science or medical research, then they’d have to cut things like financial aid or education even further”.

‘Obama’s source here is analysis from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Note that he summarized the paper’s finding appropriately, with the necessary nuance: Because Romney refuses to specify where he’d cut, it’s impossible to know precisely which programs would get fewer funds and which would not. Of course, if Romney wants to spare certain programs, he’ll have to cut more deeply into others—just like Obama said’.

A ‘Conservative’ vision for America – ‘Michigan State Rep Barred From Speaking After ‘Vagina’ Comments’

‘Free’ speech?

Legislation without representation?

Oh and it’s NOT a ‘War On Women’?

‘During a heated debate on the floor of the Michigan state House, Rep. Lisa Brown made an impassioned speech against a bill that seeks to put new regulations on abortion providers and ban all abortions after 20 weeks’.

‘Brown, a Democrat, argued that her Jewish faith allowed for therapeutic abortions when the mother’s life is in danger without regard to length of pregnancy’.

“I have not asked you to adopt and adhere to my religious beliefs. Why are you asking me to adopt yours?” she said. But what came next is what got her in trouble: “And finally, Mr. Speaker, I’m flattered that you’re all so interested my vagina, but ‘no’ means ‘no.'”

The Republican leadership response :

“‘What she said was offensive,” said Rep. Mike Callton, R-Nashville. ‘It was so offensive, I don’t even want to say it in front of women. I would not say that in mixed company.’

“Majority Floor Leader Jim Stamas, R-Midland, determined Brown’s comments violated the decorum of the House, said Ari Adler, spokesman for the Republican majority.”

A ‘Conservative’ vision for America – But it’s NOT Obstructionsim – ‘GOP Begins Judge Blockade’

This is why America is failing.

Ideology over policy.

‘With less than four and a half months until Election Day, Senate Republicans are shutting off the bipartisan spigot when it comes to confirming President Barack Obama’s nominees to the nation’s top courts and will present a unified front against his circuit court picks through November’.

‘Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) made the decision to blockade nominations official Wednesday when he informed his colleagues that he would invoke the “Thurmond Rule” from now until after the elections’.

‘Named after the late Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) — and alternately called the “Leahy Rule” by some Republicans after Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) — the doctrine holds that within six months of a presidential election, the opposition party can, and typically does, refuse to allow votes on circuit court judges’.

‘Former Romney Adviser: Republicans Are ‘Rooting Against The Economy’

‘A media strategist who was a senior adviser to Mitt Romney when he ran for governor in 2003 said that he thinks Republican lawmakers are “rooting against the economy” to ensure that President Obama doesn’t win re-election’.

‘Rob Gray, a senior adviser on Romney’s gubernatorial campaign, is a Republican media strategist who owns Gray Media, which lists an assortment of Republican officials among its past clients. Gray worked for Arizona Sen. John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign and, according to Gray Media’s web site, has advised former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld (R), Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey (R), the Republican National Committee, and Romney. He did not respond to inquiries from ThinkProgress about whether he currently advises Romney or his campaign’.

‘Appearing on Boston’s Fox 25 news channel this morning, Gray said he bought the idea that congressional Republicans were “rooting against the economy somewhat” because they believed “short-term pain” between now and November would be better than four more years under Obama’:

HOST: ‘Plenty of pundits, Rob, are suggesting that GOP lawmakers might be dragging their heels when it comes to trying to turn it around in fears that it might actually help the president. Are you buying that’?

GRAY: ‘Well, I’m not buying that they’re dragging their heels. I am buying that they’re rooting against the economy somewhat because they think that the short-term pain of, you know, the next four months is much better than having additional four years of pain under Obama. They believe the government should spend less and that they have better economic ideas than the president does’.

‘So, you know, if we have to suffer between now and November to get a better president for four years, they’re all for it’.

‘Leader Of ‘Non-Racist’ Tea Party Tells Racist Joke, Gets Big Laugh From ‘Non-Racist’ Tea Party Crowd’

‘So what do you go with if you’re speaking to the annual rally of the Ozarks Tea Party? Keep in mind that the Tea Party is definitely not racist’:

“A black kid asks his mom, ‘Mama, what’s a democracy?’

“‘Well, son, that be when white folks work every day so us po’ folks can get all our benefits.’

“‘But mama, don’t the white folk get mad about that?’

“‘They sho do, son. They sho do. And that’s called racism.’”

‘That “sho” is a thigh-slapper. The good old boy-types in Arkansas thought so anyway, they laughed and applauded’.

‘You don’t think it’s funny? Maybe I’m just not telling it right. You can hear Arkansas Tea Party Board Member Inge Marler tell it here. She does the voices, and everything’.

‘Romney Campaign Bus Taunts Obama Supporters’

This is the action of a ‘Presidential’ campaign?

‘An Obama campaign aide responded to the Romney effort saying “that’s not our style,” adding “campaigns are a reflection of the candidate.”

CLEVELAND, Ohio — ‘Republican nominee Mitt Romney’s guerrilla tactics continued Thursday, as the campaign bus circled the venue where President Barack Obama will be speaking this afternoon’.

‘As it passed the assembled throngs of supporters awaiting entry to the event at Cuyahoga Community College, the bus honked its horn dozens of times, before circling around to do it again. Obama supporters jeered and booed each time the bus passed the line outside of the security screening area’.

‘The Romney campaign has routinely deployed aides to infiltrate events featuring Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, who wait online like regular supporters, but once inside spin the media live’.

‘A source sends along this report, that the Democratic National Committee will deploy truth teams to cities along the Romney bus tour this weekend’:

‘Nicole Busch@NicoleBuschFNFollow’
‘As reported on Fox: sources say DNC will deploy “truth telling teams” to events in each city Romney will visit on his bus tour’
