Caturday at the Kanes

It’s Caturday?

Wake me when the food comes.

A ‘Conservative’ vision for America – Speaker John Boehner – ‘Where’s the jobs’? – America being ‘schooled’ in Republican Obstructionism

“It’s pretty clear that the American people are still asking the question, ‘where are the jobs?’”
From :

Grover Norquist – “We will make it so that a Democrat cannot govern as a Democrat.”
From :—–Democrat–govern—Democrat

‘Under a Republican president, the United States endured eight years of disastrous economic stewardship—arguably the worst of the post-war era—that nearly led to a second Great Depression. In response, voters elected a Democratic president and gave him huge majorities in both chambers of Congress’.

‘Rather than work with the new president, Republicans ran to the right and promised to defeat this president by any means necessary’.

See : “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’.

‘They abused institutional rules to block nominees and imposed a de-facto super-majority requirement on all legislation’.

‘This was an amazingly successful strategy’.

‘It destroyed Democratic standing with the public, energized the right-wing fringe, and led to a historic victory in the House of Representatives’.

‘Once in command of the House, Republicans pushed hugely draconian budgets, risked a government shutdown, and nearly caused a second economic collapse by threatening to default on the nation’s debt’.

‘This reckless behavior depressed the economy, prolonged the recovery, and destroyed trust in the nation’s political institutions. The Speaker of the House has even promised to do this again, if Democrats don’t bow to his demands for greater spending cuts’.

‘No Compromise’ does not a Republic make.

As a one-time moderate conservative who has shifted away from the now-radically extreme Republican Party, I am more than a bit anxious and nervous about the election in November.  There is so much at stake right now and the radical right is absolutely frightening.   The idea that a party (that is now holding the country hostage every day) could possibly hold the House, Senate, and Presidency should scare the entire country.  From Mann and Ornstein’s book, It’s Even Worse Than It Looks: How the American Constitutional System Collided With The New Politics of Extremism :

The single-minded focus on scoring political points over solving problems, escalating over the last several decades, has reached a level of such intensity and bitterness that the government seems incapable of taking and sustaining public decisions responsive to the existential challenges facing the country.  The public may still revere the Constitution and support the system…

Mitt Romney Lies #5 – “an independent inspector general looked at this investment and concluded that the administration had steered money to friends and family, to campaign contributors.”

Misinformation. Disinformation. Lies.

The real ‘Republican Contract For America’.

‘Yesterday in California, Mitt Romney stood in front of the failed Solyndra factory’ and said those very words.

‘In a TV ad focused on Solyndra, the Romney campaign makes a similar claim, saying the “Inspector General said that contracts were steered to friends and family.”

‘This isn’t true’.

‘The Romney campaign cites as “proof” a book excerpt in Newsweek/The Daily Beast, which states that the Department of Energy’s inspector general, Gregory Friedman “has testified that contracts have been steered to ‘friends and family.’”

‘That isn’t correct’.

‘What Friedman testified to, in March 2011, is: “We currently have 64 open investigations associated with the Recovery Act, nearly 25 percent of our current case load. Schemes under investigation include the submission of false information in applications for funding, fraudulent claims for rebates, claims for unallowable or unauthorized expenses, the directing of contracts and grants to friends and family, weatherization fraud to include mischarging, and other attempts to fraudulently obtain Recovery Act funds.”

‘You can read his testimony HERE’.

‘So this is one of many areas that the Department of Energy is looking into’.

“We cannot comment on open or closed cases not in the public domain,” a spokeswoman for the Inspector General’s office told ABC News. “However, none of the cases that resulted in convictions for recovery act fraud were related to the directing of contracts or grants to family or friends.”

‘I asked the Romney campaign why the candidate is saying something that is not true’.

‘A campaign aide responded with the campaign’s – not the inspector general’s — take that “friends” and “family” benefited from the Solyndra loan’.

WE NEED TO LOWER THEIR TAXES SO THEY CAN CREATE JOBS!!! – ‘Corporate Profits Have Skyrocketed Over Last Three Years’

‘After dipping during the Great Recession, corporate profits have now skyrocketed past their pre-recession levels, Business Insider’s Joe Weisenthal notes’.

‘After-tax profits and corporate profits as a share of gross domestic product (GDP) are now higher than they were in the middle of the last decade, after a similar vertical spike’.

‘Despite massive profit gains, however, corporations are adding more jobs overseas than they are in the United States and paying one of the lowest effective tax rates in the developed world’.

A ‘Conservative’ vision for America – ‘President Obama And Democrats Want To Murder Christians’

‘The Daily Advertiser, a Gannett-owned paper serving central Louisiana, is standing by its decision to run an advertisement today in which a far-right extremist group suggests that President Obama and Democrats are conspiring to murder Catholics and Christians’.

‘The ad shows a photograph of a Catholic priest who was shot and killed in Mexico in the 1920s, and suggests that President Obama and Democrats would do the same’.

“AMERICA is under siege by the same evil (obama and democrats) as history shows over and over…We must learn from it or we are doomed to repeat it. We must be triumphant over terror.”

‘As with most newspapers, The Daily Advertiser says it does screen advertisements to ensure that blatantly false, overly offensive or otherwise inappropriate content is kept out of the paper’.

‘But the paper’s president and publisher Karen J. Lincoln told ThinkProgress that the newspaper stood by its decision to run the ad. “We look at all of the ads, and the decision is made by each market,” she said. “This ad did meet our standards. The decision to run it was approved.”

A ‘Conservative’ vision for America – “And that’s something that conservatives have to beat out of them”.

‘The National Review’s Jonah Goldberg is claiming that 18-year-olds should be denied the right to vote because they are “so frickin’ stupid about so many things.”

GOLDBERG: ‘Personally, I think the voting age should be much, higher, not lower. I think it was a mistake to lower it to 18, to be brutally honest….[I]t is a simple fact of science that nothing correlates more with ignorance and stupidity than youth. We’re all born idiots, and we only get over that condition as we get less young. And yet there’s this thing in this culture where, ‘Oh, young people are for it so it must be special.’ No, the reason young people are for it because they don’t know better. That’s why we call them young people. […]’

‘The fact that young people think socialism is better than capitalism. That’s proof of what social scientists call their stupidity and their ignorance. And that’s something that conservatives have to beat out of them. Either literally or figuratively as far as I’m concerned’.
