Foward – Economy Has Recovered All Private Sector Jobs Lost Since Obama Took Office

‘Under President Obama, the private sector has experienced a relatively robust recovery, and is now back to where it started when he took office’.

‘You read that right. We have now replaced all of the private sector jobs lost while Obama has been president’.

‘The public sector continues to shed jobs, and as a result, the overall jobs picture in the US remains weak. If you want to understand why conservative efforts to slash funding for teachers, firefighters, cops is bad for the economy, look no further’.

But Mitt Romney’s has to misinform, disinform or lie about ‘normal’.

‘Mitt Romney blasted President Obama on Fox News after the jobs report released this morning showed anemic growth of just 115,000 jobs last month’.

‘Said Romney: “We should be seeing numbers in the 500,000 jobs created per month. This is way, way off from what should happen in a normal recovery.”

Think Progress: “That sort of growth, however, is hardly “normal,” as Romney claims… there have only been 16 months since 1939 — and only four in the last 50 years — in which the economy added 500,000 jobs or more.”

Romney – “Anything over 4% [unemployment] is not cause for celebration.”

‘The United States last achieved a sub-4% unemployment rate in December 2000, the end of President Clinton’s term’.
Robert Reich
‘Rom says unemp shld be 4%. I was Sec of Lab last time it was 4%. We got there by raising taxes on rich and investing in ed and infrstructre’.

Dirty Tricks 2012 – What Everyone Should Know About The Secretive Group Trying To Swift Boat Barack Obama

A fantastic piece over at Think Progress on a group trying to ‘swift boat’ President Obama.

The frist problem I see with this group is that to ‘swift boat’ someone usually hangs on having a militarty record. Neither President Obama or Mitt Romey served. So really this is just  ‘dirty trick’ politics but it needs to be exposed unlike Sen Kerry DIDN’T do.

Secondly, I live in a very Conservative Congressional District, the 5th in Eastern Washington which borders Northern Idaho LONG time home of the knuckle dragging skin heads and Aryan Nations.
And frankly this is another example of ‘normal’ rank and file Republicans not seeing this as Obama ‘spiking the football’. So aside form the fringe extreme on the right, good luck getting any traction with normal people.

The attempt to make President Obama look ‘weak’ on foreign affairs or national security is really not one the Republicans want to get into.

For every event that they point to as ‘weak’, President Obama can respond by ‘running on his record’.

And Moderates and Independents WILL see it as ‘running on his record and NOT ‘spiking the football’.

And if being ‘strong’ on national security means going to war, then the Republicans will find an America that is sick of war. We can’t afford it, emotionally or financially.

‘A secretive right-wing group, Veterans For A Strong America, is attempting to do to President Obama what the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth did to Sen. John Kerry in 2004. And they aren’t shy about it. The group’s leader and sole employee, Joel Arends, told Mother Jones, “Yes, it’s the swift boating of the president.”

‘Arends said his goal is to take “what’s perceived to be [Obama’s] greatest strength” — the successful raid on Osama Bin Laden’s Pakistani compound — and make it “his greatest weakness.”

‘In an interview with ThinkProgress, Arends refused to discuss any information regarding how the group was financed or its leadership. Arends also declined to provide legal forms he claims to have filed with the IRS. A representative from the IRS told ThinkProgress that the agency does not have any forms from Arends’ group on file’.

‘Here’s what we do know about Arends and Veterans For A Strong America’:

2. ‘Veterans For A Strong America is seeking to recruit Navy SEALS to attack Obama. “In the wake of a warm conservative reception for a web video trashing the president for ‘spiking the football’ on the anniversary of Osama Bin Laden’s death, the conservative group Veterans for a Strong America plans to gather Navy SEALs and Special Forces operators to criticize the White House during the 2012 campaign.” [BuzzFeed, 5/3/12]

3. ‘Arends also tried to Swift Boat Obama in 2008. Arends, under the auspices of a similar group called “Vets for Freedom,” ran an ad accusing Obama of refusing to meet with wounded soldiers from Illinois’. [NPR, 7/5/08]

4. ‘Arends worked as a consultant for the Koch Brothers’ Americans for Prosperity. The Koch Brothers and their allies have pledged to spend $100 million to defeat Obama’. [Mother Jones, 5/4/12; HuffingtonPost, 2/3/12]

5. ‘In 2008, Arends — posing as a “journalist” — organized and participated in a taxpayer-subsidized propaganda trip to Iraq. “American taxpayers are paying for politically slanted, pro-McCain, anti-Obama ‘reporters’ embedded with U.S. troops in Iraq. Vets for Freedom – a pro-war organization that buys attack ads against Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama – assembled a team of eight military veterans with dubious journalistic credentials to report ‘objectively’ on what is occurring in Iraq…Joel Arends, another “reporter,” is VFF’s executive director and was on McCain’s campaign payroll between March 2007 and February 2008.” [Charleston Gazette, 8/28/08]

6. ‘Arends is coordinating with key Islamophobic figures on the far right. He regularly appears at events with anti-Islam conspiracy theorist Frank Gaffney, who has been condemned by mainstream conservatives for his intolerant views. He is also alligned with William “Jerry” Boykin, who was found to have violated Pentagon rules by expressing his anti-Muslim views in an official capacity’. [ThinkProgress, 2/12/12; For The Common Defense; New York Times, 3/4/05]

7. ‘Arends helped promote a documentary advocating war with Iran. Arends appeared on a panel in March 2011 in South Dakota promoting the documentary Iranium, which strongly suggests beginning a war with Iran’. [Flier; ThinkProgress, 11/3/11]

8. ‘Veterans for A Strong America is fully endorsed by Karl Rove. The man known as “Bush’s Brain” tweeted his support of their first web ad’. [Twitter, 5/3/12]

The ‘Terminator’ on Republicans

I’m not a big or for that matrter any fan of Ronald Reagan, be it in politics or the movies.

But Arny goes all bug eyed on him. Arny also is yet another Republicn that sends the same warning :

‘It’s time for the Republicans who are so bent on enforcing conformity to ask themselves a question: What would Ronald Reagan have done? He worked hard to maintain a welcoming, open and diverse Republican Party’.

‘We need to remind the Republicans who want to enforce ideological purity that if they succeed, they will undo Reagan’s work to create an inclusive party that could fit many different views’.

‘Some Republicans today aren’t even willing to have conversations about protecting the environment, investing in the infrastructure America needs or improving healthcare. By holding their fingers in their ears when those topics arise, these Republicans aren’t just denying themselves a seat at the table; in a state such as California, they also deny a seat to every other Republican’.

‘Teddy Roosevelt is still a hero among environmentalists for his conservationist policies. Dwight Eisenhower believed in the value of investing in infrastructure, and we can thank him for our highway system. Nixon, who originally attracted me to the party, nearly passed universal healthcare. He also created the national Environmental Protection Agency, which some modern Republicans want to close down’.

‘Being a Republican used to mean finding solutions for the American people that worked for everyone. It used to mean having big ideas that moved the country forward’.

‘House GOP Would Let Domestic Abusers Know Their Victims Called For Help’ – But it’s not a ‘War On Women’ right?

Oh that’s ‘right’ (pun intended). They’re ‘undocumented’ so ‘illegal’ so not really people. The ‘laws’ of humane, decent and just behavior don’t have to apply to them.

‘Visas offered to undocumented victims of domestic violence are called “U Visas” and the Senate version of the bill expanded the number of U Visas offered to victims’.

‘The House GOP-led version of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) strips out the additional visas’.

‘It also contains a new provision enabling government officials to inform “the accused” that their victim blew the whistle on their abuse’.

‘During the adjudication of each petition under this paragraph, an investigative officer from a local service center of United States Citizenship and Immigration Services shall conduct an in-person interview of the alien who filed the petition. The investigative officer may also gather other evidence and interview other witnesses, including the accused United States citizen or lawful permanent resident, if they consent to be interviewed’.

‘Undocumented victims already fear calling the police because they risk deportation in doing so. This portion of the bill adds on another level of fear by alerting their abusers that they’ve sought help’.

‘Allowing perpetrators of domestic violence to play any role in the deportation or protection of their victims is a cruel fate, but alerting an abuser to a victim’s complaint adds yet another level of emotional abuse on top of the physical abuse that the victim already faces’.

A weak Romney – “Pushed around by a Yokel Like Me?”

‘Bryan Fischer of the American Family Association, poked fun at Mitt Romney following the resignation of Richard Grenell, an openly gay Romney spokesman on security issues who Fischer and other Religious Right leaders wanted ousted from the campaign’.

‘The New York Times reported that one Republican adviser claimed the campaign offered no defense of Grenell because “they didn’t want to confront the religious right.”

“I don’t think for one minute that Mitt Romney did not want this guy gone,” Fischer continued, “he wanted this guy gone because there was not one word of defense, not a peep, from the Romney camp to defend him.”

‘Today, Fischer asserted that Romney shouldn’t expect voters to trust him to confront China, Russia or North Korea’.

“Let me ask you this question, people have raised this question, if Mitt Romney can be pushed around, intimidated, coerced, coopted by a conservative radio talk show host in Middle America, then how is he going to stand up to the Chinese? How is he going to stand up to Putin? How is he going to stand up to North Korea if he can be pushed around by a yokel like me? I don’t think Romney is realizing the doubts that this begins to raise about his leadership’.

Birtherism gone bad – “say whatever a given audience wants to hear, if it will help him get elected.”

Now who does THAT remind you of?

‘Last week, the The Charlotte Observer endorsed Republican congressional candidate Jim Pendergraph’.

‘Republican congressional candidate Jim Pendergraph joined notorious birther Sheriff Joe Arpaio on the campaign trail, and raised his own doubts about President Obama’s birthplace’.

“I have reason to be suspicious,” he said of Obama’s birth certificate. “But I don’t know. I haven’t seen the facts. I think there’s a lot of smoke and generally when there’s smoke there’s got to be fire somewhere.”

The Charlotte Observer quickly backtracked :

‘After winning the Observer’s endorsement in his bid for Congress, he has done nothing but embarrass us and himself’.

‘By buddying up to one of America’s more hateful egomaniacs and then joining with fringe “birthers” to question President Obama’s citizenship, Pendergraph has contradicted much of what he told the Observer’s editorial board in his endorsement interview last month. As a result, we have lost faith in him, and urge voters to consider Edwin Peacock or Ric Killian in the 9th Congressional District race’.

‘The paper’s editorial board went on to say that it had originally thought Pendergraph was intelligent and reasonable and moderate, but that they don’t trust him now and are afraid he will “say whatever a given audience wants to hear, if it will help him get elected.”
