But it’s NOT a ‘war on women’ – Legislating Morality – NOT health care

In 1992, the Supreme Court, in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, upheld women’s constitutional right to abortion services, but allowed certain leeway in placing restrictions on access to reproductive healthcare.

‘The sponsor of an Idaho mandatory ultrasound bill, state Sen. Chuck Winder, made some highly controversial comments Monday during his closing arguments, suggesting women might falsely use rape as an excuse to obtain an abortion’.

‘Winder, a Republican from Boise, responded to those concerns by raising the question of whether women understand when they have been raped’.

“Rape and incest was used as a reason to oppose this,” Winder said on the Senate floor. “I would hope that when a woman goes in to a physician with a rape issue, that physician will indeed ask her about perhaps her marriage, was this pregnancy caused by normal relations in a marriage or was it truly caused by a rape. I assume that’s part of the counseling that goes on.”

In 1992, the Supreme Court, in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, upheld women’s constitutional right to abortion services, but allowed certain leeway in placing restrictions on access to reproductive healthcare.

‘The Texas Senate on Thursday approved a measure that would require women seeking an abortion to first get an ultrasound’.

‘Women could choose not to view the sonogram image or listen to the heartbeat, but they would be required to listen to an explanation of the images, except in cases of rape or incest or if there are fetal abnormalities’.

‘Republican Gov. Rick Perry, who had put the legislation on a fast track by declaring it an emergency priority, commended the bill’s advancement’.

“This is God’s time to pass this bill,” said the measure’s author, Sen. Dan Patrick, a Houston Republican.

In South Dakota ‘Governor Dennis Daugaard says this abortion bill is vital to the value of human life’.
“I  think most abortions in South Dakota are elective, not intended to save life of the mother or save her health,” said Governor Daugaard.

Mandatory counseling for a woman is one stipulation.

“It’s an unbelievable intrusion into the doctor patient relationship.  It’s forcing women to go consult with these crisis pregnancy centers which are generally bias,” said Alisha Sedor with NARAL Pro Choice’.

‘In 2006, a congressional committee looked into federally funded CPC’s, and found that “the vast majority of the federally funded pregnancy resource centers contacted during the investigation provided information about the risks of abortion that was false or misleading,” and “in many cases, this information was grossly inaccurate or distorted.” The National Abortion Federation notes that such centers are mostly staffed by volunteers whose “main qualifications are a commitment to Christianity and anti-choice beliefs.”

FRANKFORT, Ky. – On Tuesday Rep. Tim Moore, R-Elizabethtown, filed as a proposed amendment to a nursing home bill language to require a patient seeking an abortion to get face-to-face counseling in advance. It also requires a physician to advise a patient of the right to view an ultrasound beforehand.

Moore proposes to add the language to House Bill 414, a measure to upgrade the oversight of nursing home …

In Virginia – ‘Byron’s amendments to Senate Bill 924 would classify any facility that performs five or more first-trimester abortions as a hospital, subject to regulation by the State Board of Health, a regulatory board whose members are appointed by the governor’.

‘Women’s-rights advocates say that if the measure is passed and signed into law by Gov. Bob McDonnell, it effectively could force most of the commonwealth’s clinics to shut down because of the costs associated with upgrading facilities to hospital standards’.

‘A Georgia state representative has reintroduced an anti-abortion bill that would make miscarriages a felony if the mother cannot prove there was no “human involvement.”

‘The legislation from Rep. Bobby Franklin, a Republican, would make all abortions, described as “prenatal murder,” illegal based on the belief that all life begins at conception’.

Health Care Messaging – The Economics of ‘Trickle Down’ Health Care

Today the Supreme Court will take up arguements on the ‘individual mandate’.

‘How dare the Government FORCE me to buy insurance.’

Our laws require that a hospital provide life saving treatment regardless of insurance or ability to pay.

The hospital then passes any losses on by increasing the cost of health care.

Insurance companies react to the increase in health care by increasing premiums.

So IF everybody had insurance, then the hospitals wouldn’t increase cost because of losses and the insurance companies wouldn’t increase premiums because of this particular cost.

Either that or let’s go back to the ‘good old days’ and if you don’t have insurance or the ability to pay – you don’t get treated.

Then let’s see how fast you buy insurance.

Gas Prices and OIL COMPANY subsidies – A case of NOT getting what we paid for

By removing those ‘incentives’ or subsidies, the Government will save about $4 billion dollars a year that now goes directly to the major oil companies.

In other words, our taxes PAY for an additional $4 billion dollars in income for the major oil companies.

Now even WITH these subsidies, the price of a gallon of gasoline  has climbed to around $4.00 a gallon in my State and even up to $5.00 a gallon nationaly.

But Senator McConnell says that if the subsidies are taken away from the major oil companies, the price of gas will go even higher.

So I’ve been paying more for a gallon of gas and Still paying taxes to help out the oil companies.

Oil companies that are likely to report billions in profits this next quarter.

Excuse me Senator McConnell, somebody is getting screwed here and it’s NOT the oil companies. So who exactly DO you work for?
‘The Senate voted 92-4 Monday to begin an election-year floor debate over Democratic legislation to repeal oil industry tax breaks, a plan that’s unlikely to ultimately pass but provides a platform for partisan warfare over gasoline prices’.

‘The procedural vote advanced Sen. Robert Menendez’s (D-N.J.) plan that would raise billions of dollars by removing incentives for the largest oil-and-gas companies, and also extend several green energy and energy efficiency tax breaks’.

‘Most Republicans oppose the bill but GOP members voted Monday for a motion that allows debate to proceed, a tactical move that shows they believe the fight will be beneficial politically’.

‘Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said on the floor Monday that “common sense and basic economics” show that raising industry taxes will send gasoline prices even higher’.

Newt Gingrich – ‘Brother can you spare $50’?

NOW can we call it what it REALLY is – a book tour?
If it wasn’t so funny, it really is kind of sad.

HOCKESSIN, Del. – ‘In a sign that his campaign is in need of fresh funds, Newt Gingrich on Monday began charging $50 to have a photograph taken with him following a campaign speech to Republican groups here in the northernmost part of the state’.

‘It was the first time that the former House speaker has charged those attending one of his public speaking events to pose for a photograph with him. Lately, a member of his campaign staff has been snapping photos of any interested attendee and later posting them online at the campaign’s website,’.

‘On Monday night, those paying for a photograph were also told they could find their photos on Gingrich’s website, after they had filled out a form providing their credit card information’.

‘The campaign limped out of the month of February posting more debt than cash on hand’.
